GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Science Director, the Creel Survey Program Leader performs advanced (senior-level) natural resources work and is responsible for coordinating, managing and administering the Texas Marine Sport-Harvest Monitoring Program. Generates landings estimates and other relevant statistics from the data in support of fisheries management. Provides leadership in program coordination with staff. Participates in the Division’s Quality Control program. Communicates and interacts with the public, scientific community and agency peers. Prepares reports, maps or other technical information in paper and digital formats for Coastal Fisheries projects, programs, technical workgroups and committees. Participates as an effective member of the team and program. Operates equipment safely and maintains gear, equipment and facilities. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as required. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree OR higher in Biology, Ecology, Wildlife or Fisheries Science, or one of the Natural Sciences.
Experience:
Two years of professional experience in data analysis.
Licensure:
Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid class “C” Texas driver’s license.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:
Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in a related area of Natural Sciences may be substituted for one year of required experience;
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a PhD in related area of Natural Sciences may be substituted for two years of required experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Master’s degree or PhD from accredited college or university in Biology, Ecology, Wildlife or Fisheries Science, or one of the Natural Sciences.
Experience:
Experience with querying data from large databases using SQL.
