TITLE/GRADE:                                 Natural Resources Technician – Park & Rec Aide 5          SALARY HIRING RATE:                                                    $19.27/hour

WORK LOCATION:                          Saratoga Spa State Park, 19 Roosevelt Drive, Saratoga Springs, NY

REGION:                                           Saratoga – Capital

NEGOTIATING UNIT:                      CSEA

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT              Year-round Seasonal. Position is contingent upon funding each fiscal year.

WORK SCHEDULE: Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8am – 4:30pm. Infrequently, early and/or late days, as well as weekend days, may be necessary to meet natural resource objectives. Any adjustments to work schedule will be coordinated and compensated. 

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will work under the direction of the Environmental Stewardship Biologist with additional guidance from other Regional Environmental Stewardship program staff, to complete conservation work throughout the 20+ State Parks facilities in the nine-county Saratoga-Capital District Region. Duties may include, but are not limited to: habitat surveys and monitoring; habitat restoration project planning and coordination; invasive species surveys & management; database management; water quality monitoring; native plant establishment; environmental education and outreach; volunteer coordination; and seasonal employee supervision. Other stewardship duties to be determined at the discretion of the Environmental Stewardship team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A strong understanding of the ecology of upstate New York
  • At least one year of experience conducting ecological field surveys, including various vegetation and wildlife surveys
  • At least one year of experience conducting invasive species identification and management
  • Experience supervising field staff
  • Excellent organizational skills in office and field settings
  • A working knowledge of GPS and GIS software, including ArcGIS, Field Maps, Survey 123 and iMap Invasives
  • Ability to work and maintain a good attitude while performing physical tasks in a variety of conditions
  • Ability to excel in team and individual settings
  • Strong interest in and commitment to environmental stewardship
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
