Nature and climate Officer (Part time, 30 hours per week)
Fixed-term 12 month contract until March 2025
Salary band: £24.400 – £28,000
Location: Avon Wildlife Trust Head Office, site-based delivery hubs, some home
working
As the new Nature & Climate Officer you will play a critical role in the Nature
Recovery Team, with your projects making a significant contribution to achieving our strategic
goals of; creating 1000ha of new habitat by 2030 and bringing 30% of land and sea into
management for the benefit of wildlife.
You will work across a variety of landscapes but will have a focus on the North Somerset Levels
and Moors. This large wetland area hosts numerous SSSI’s and large areas of peatland, it is a
priority landscape for ecological restoration, but it is also highly vulnerable to climate
change.
As the new Nature & Climate Officer you will work with AWT teams and partner organisations
to increase awareness of the climate threats the area faces and the role nature-based solutions
can play in tackling them.
With your mix of ecological/land management experience and knowledge of climate change you will
deliver real benefits, working closely with farmers/landowners to offer advice on habitat
restoration that provides long-term climate and ecological resilience. You will also develop
and deliver engagement activities to explain the local climate risks and the nature-based
solutions that can support farm adaptation.
