Nature Camp Counselor

Located on South Bass Island, The Lake Erie Islands Nature & Wildlife Center provides environmental education for youth and adults, including residents and tourists, through Center programs, educational outreach activities, printed and digital content and site improvements. Camp counselors will be responsible for the day-to-day activities of the five (5) weeks of Middle Bass and South Bass (Put-in-Bay) Islands Nature Camp programs under the supervision of the Camp Coordinator.

Qualifications: 

• Experience or interest in education, recreation, youth services and/or environmental education;
• Ability to interact positively with camp staff, volunteers, campers, guest presenters and other educators, as well as local community members and visitors;
• Capability to work long hours, occasionally physically strenuous, supervising groups of children and adults in various settings including kayaking, fishing, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities;
• Positive attitude, love of nature, diligence, sense of humor and willingness to learn;
• Certifications preferred in CPR, First Aid, Lifeguard, and current BCI/FBI records checks as needed.

Responsibilities: 

     1.   Meet as necessary with Nature Camp Coordinator and staff to confirm daily camp schedules. 
     2.   Prepare any supplies and materials required for daily activities; 
     3.   Confirm and coordinate scheduled activities with guest speakers, staff and volunteers; 
     4.   Assist coordinator and camp assistant
     5.   Perform all duties in a professional and courteous manner; 

Flexible start and end dates. Please note we are located on South Bass Island in Lake Erie, accessible only by plane or ferry. We do not provide housing but do cover ferry fees.
