trees and bringing woodlands into management to help tackle the climate emergency and support
nature recovery. In doing so, we aim to improve the quality of life for people by delivering
nature-based activities across all 10 districts.
There is so much going on right now – it’s a fantastic time to join the team!
Job description
City of Trees (CoT) is working with the 10 districts of Greater Manchester (GM) and a range of
other public and private sector partners to increase tree cover and bring woodlands into
management across the City Region. Trees and woodlands are a key component in our fight against
climate change through their ability to deliver nature-based solutions. They also help to
create healthier and happier places for people to live and work in.
CoT works strategically within GM to ensure that trees and woodlands are embedded into local
plans. We are currently supporting the development of GM’s Local Nature Recover Strategy (LNRS)
and developing Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) offsite units for bringing woodlands into
management.
A few main duties of the role include:
- Take a pro-active role in the coordination of project development work needed to deliver
the aims and objectives of the City of Trees Business Plan. - Helping to develop CoT’s nature recovery programme and raise CoT profile in this area.
Attend partnership meetings to assist the Development Team by turning strategic leads and
opportunities into the development of a ‘pipeline’ of nature recovery projects. - Helping to identify landscape-scale nature recovery projects and potential pipelines of
investible opportunities. - To provide ecological advice to ensure that woodland creation schemes complement and
enhance local biodiversity. This includes, but is not limited to, inputting into woodland
design, carrying out peatland, grassland, and bird surveys as required.
We are looking for someone who has experience of working in the environment sector with an
ecology background to help deliver our nature recovery offer and further develop workstreams,
such as BNG, that are already underway. Successful candidates will have strong partnership and
people skills, with considerable experience in project development and delivery and securing
funding from a variety of sources.
At City of Trees, we want to attract the best talent therefore, we encourage applications from
people of all backgrounds. We are an equal opportunities employer and are committed to a policy
of treating all our employees and job applicants equally and avoiding any potentially
discriminatory practice.
