in the Scottish Borders. We aim to restore and preserve natural places for the benefit of our
wildlife, our environment, and our communities. Our mission is to preserve our rich natural and
cultural heritage and create spaces where people can come together to learn new skills and
knowledge about how we can care for our planet and each other.

Role Description

This is a part-time role for a Nature Restoration Officer at Bright Green Nature. The charity
provides small grants to families, schools and small community groups through its “Wild Your
Space” Microfund (see www.brightgreennature.org/funding) and as part of this extremely
successful programme we are seeking to employ an experienced Nature Restoration Officer to
support our growing community of WYS applicants.

The role is funded for one year.  

As a Nature Restoration Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Working directly with schools, families and community groups within the Scottish Borders to
    provide guidance and practical support in improving biodiversity within their spaces
  • Supporting the WYS groups to be able to access materials such as trees, plants, wood, tools
    and other materials required by their projects
  • Support the WYS groups to be able to maintain their restored spaces to benefit Nature on a
    longer term basis
  • Monitor and track progress made by WYS groups to demonstrate impact
  • Building and managing an online network of WYS Microfund holders
  • Building and managing a WYS Ambassador network within communities.
  • Possible expansion and development of the role to provide advice to other stakeholder
    groups such as landowners

This role requires a strong passion for nature conservation and the ability to work
independently.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Experience in developing restoration plans
  • Knowledge of native plant species and ecological restoration techniques
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Passion for nature conservation/restoration and sustainable practices

Desirable:

  • A degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, or a related field
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including community organizations
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations
