Position Summary and Duties This Network Technician supports the stable operation of Loyola’s wired and wireless networks. They will install, configure, and maintain network related physical infrastructure and provide first-level customer support. The position reports directly to the Associate Director of Infrastructure.
Job duties include:
Ensure LAN and wireless LAN (WLAN) connectivity throughout the campus. Rapidly diagnose and resolve connectivity and performance problems related to physical cabling or RF environment issues. Assist in wiring installation for network connectivity (data and analog voice).
Install and troubleshoot various hardware, including network switches, Wi-Fi access points, UPS equipment, analog telephony devices, and data, telephone and fiber cable plant.
Maintain inventories and documentation of structured plant cabling and equipment, including inside plant fiber, outside plant fiber, and data office cabling.
Ensure the ongoing quality of the campus structured cable technologies.
Plan and design expansion and upgrade projects with Network Engineers. Plan and oversee structured cabling projects (inside and outside plant).
The Network Technician is responsible for all “front line” interactions with Faculty, Staff, and students. In many ways this position is the public face of the network infrastructure organization.
Required Qualifications Working knowledge of design, implementation and maintenance of wired and wireless local area networks.
Excellent knowledge of twisted pair and fiber optic structured cabling and diagnostic techniques. Excellent knowledge of video distribution and linear television technologies.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent documentation and organizational skills.
3 to 5 years of relevant experience.
Bachelor’s degree.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Must be able to work occasional on call and after hours work as required.
Must be able to support the University’s goals for institutional diversity, as well as the goals and values of a Catholic, Jesuit education.
