About the Job
The Networking Advisor contributes to the acceptance and understanding of the ICRC and its humanitarian objectives by key stakeholders in Somalia. Maintains up-to-date mapping of key contacts and groups and adapted databases for information sharing and knowledge management. Works in cross-cutting approach with different departments regarding operational networking. Contributes to the Somalia Delegation`s analysis and understanding of context dynamics.
This is a resident/national position based in Mogadishu, Somalia with frequent travel to all field offices in Somalia.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Keeps abreast of important publications in Somalia and summarizes them in a concise manner in coordination with the Networking team.
- Conducts stakeholder mapping exercises of importance to the delegation.
- Feeds analysis and if requested, conducts research on topics of relevance related to conflict dynamics and other actors in a clear and concise manner.
- Contributes to media monitoring in particular any publications relating to the security or operations of the ICRC and reports them in a duly manner.
- Acts as a focal point for networking with religious circles, scholars, clan leaders, community leaders and others under the supervision of the Senior Advisor with the purpose of building acceptance.
- Acts as a focal point for relationship building with key stakeholders, in coordination with the Networking Coordinator and the sub-delegations.
- Supports the Mogadishu sub-delegation with networking activities under the supervision of Mogadishu management.
- Ensures due reporting of all networking activities as per the ICRC guidelines.
- Supports in translation of statements from Somali to English and vice versa.
- Coaches and supports Generalist Field Officers across the country on networking activities.
- Systematically identifies and liaises with institutions, clan leaders, academics, and clerics in the networking process.
- Acts as a focal point for the organization and follow up of the IHL & Islam seminars.
- Contributes to the delegation’s networking strategy, global mapping exercise and other internal requests.
Minimum qualifications and required competencies
- Bachelor`s degree in social sciences, religious studies, political science, international relations, law, conflict studies or a related discipline
- 3 years’ work experience within the humanitarian, research, or conflict resolution sector with a focus on Somalia and/or the region.
- Proven knowledge of the context in Somalia (political, security, humanitarian elements).
- Proven record of networking especially in relation to academic and religious circles, community leaders, among others
- Fluency in spoken and written Somali and English – Arabic knowledge an asset.
- Ability to handle confidential information with care and respect the sensitivity of the information
- Computer proficiency especially in MS office suite.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel extensively in Somalia.
- Excellent knowledge of political, economic, social and cultural environment of this region
