Background

As part of the fight against HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria in the Central African Republic, WVI has been selected as a Principal Recipient of the Global Fund GC7 grant for the period from 2024 to 2026.

As part of the health system strengthening component of the grant, specifically in the area of human resources, WVI is recruiting 8 specialized medical doctors on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Population. These specialists will be assigned to specific hospitals in country to fill current gaps, ensure the transfer of skills and build the capacities of students of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Bangui.

Skills required:

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine with specialization in neurosurgery.
  • Registration with the Order of Physicians and good knowledge of the regulations and medical standards in force (can be done locally).
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in neurosurgery, preferably in a teaching hospital setting.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven teaching skills and interest in medical education.

Objective of the position:

The neurosurgeon practicing in a University Hospital Center and teaching at the Faculty of Medicine has the following main responsibilities:

Clinical Practice:

  • Perform inpatient and outpatient neurosurgical consultations
  • Diagnose, plan and perform surgical procedures
  • Follow patients post-operatively and participate in their rehabilitation
  • Prescribe additional tests and interpret the results
  • Collaborate with other members of the medical team to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care

Teaching and research:

  • Deliver theoretical and practical courses to medical and neurosurgical students
  • Mentoring neurosurgical interns and residents in their clinical training
  • Participate in clinical research projects in the field of neurosurgery
  • Contribute to the publication of scientific articles and the presentation of work at medical congresses

Management and administration:

  • Participate in the planning and organization of the activities of the neurosurgery department within the University Hospital
  • Follow up on patients’ medical records and adhere to established care protocols
  • Participate in multidisciplinary consultation meetings to discuss complex cases
  • Contribute to the promotion of the discipline of neurosurgery to patients and the medical community

The neurosurgeon practicing in a university hospital and teaching at the Faculty of Medicine must demonstrate excellent clinical, pedagogical and management skills. They must also be able to work in a team and adapt to an ever-changing hospital environment.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Type of contract: fixed-term contract (full-time).
  • Remuneration: according to the salary scale in force for international hospital doctors.
