OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
The Africa Hall, located in Addis Ababa, is a historical building donated by the Emperor of Ethiopia Haile Selassie in the early 1960s. It is the birthplace of the Organization of African Unity, which is now the African Union and whose founding Charter was signed in the Hall in 1963. Africa Hall is under renovation into a modernized facility, complying with the highest international standards for conference facilities and having a visitors’ Centre comprising a permanent exhibition, to showcase the history, heritage, and culture of Africa. The objective of a permanent exhibition is to make Africa Hall one of the leading attractions in Addis Ababa and highlight its significant role in modem African history and culture. The exhibition utilizes the Audio-Visual solution that will be designed to allow visitors interaction with touch display. The themes identified for the permanent exhibition are Pan-Africanism, African World Heritage sites and Biosphere Reserves
Scope of the Work
Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Addis Ababa Liaison Office, and direct supervision of the Culture program officer the consultant will support the content development for audio visual permanent exhibition in setup in Africa Hall
- Create an outline & detailed flowchart for the program
- Conceptualize & customize content in electronic AI format for interactive exhibition that can be accessed easily by the wider audience
- Create a data base comprising text images audio video including screencasts & animations designed for an interactive exhibit in a standardized format with concise but sufficient information. The content should be organized based on user profile data such as age expertise interests’ language etc & enable access to the widest possible population including people with disabilities
- Develop a map based on content/meaning/semantics for geographic & thematic content that support storytelling through the combination of representations of African heritage properties enhanced with digital information & images
- In consultation with a team developing virtual reality develop a mechanism of linking elements with combination of text images audio video including screencasts, animations self-test questions & other interactive activities with thematic areas themes and geographical locations
- Work in consultation with a team developing virtual reality to make sure the content structure is compatible with the requirements of internet-based digital platforms. Online version of the Permanent Exhibition of Africa Hall

- Final script content comprising contents described above integrating the inputs from UNESCO

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Advanced university degree (master’s degree or above) in cultural &/or natural heritage management, heritage studies, anthropology, archaeology, architecture or related fields.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Experience in the process of developing nomination files for inscription of heritage properties/elements.
- Proven coordination in research and analytical skills, including demonstrated ability to write historical and cultural stories. Experience on web-research and use of UNESCO on-line resource materials.
- Proven experience in research and analytical skills, including demonstrated ability to write historical and cultural accounts/stories.
- Experience or demonstrated capacity to understand and work in multi-cultural environment.
- Experience in graphics design and content development for audio-visual production
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to produce quality stories.
- Excellent drafting skills with ability to produce high quality reports/articles/ publications on historical, cultural and natural heritage topics.
- Proven ability to communicate with colleagues, ready to learn and share knowledge.
- Proven ability to work effectively in diverse teams and in a multicultural environment.
