Detailed Job Description

The Department of Science and Mathematics at the National Institute for the Deaf (NTID) is seeking to fill a 9-month lecturer (non-tenure-track) faculty position in the field of mathematics. The successful candidate will:

  •     Provide tutoring support for deaf and hard-of-hearing students enrolled in baccalaureate-level environmental science, biology, and health sciences courses
  •     Provide direction instruction in environmental science, biology, and health science coursework, as needed, to students in associate-level programs.
  •     Already be proficient in American Sign Language as determined by the college sign language proficiency rating system and will use ASL to instruct students
  •     Fulfill other faculty expectations including those related to service, communication, and diversity.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree in environmental science, a biological or health science, or a related field. Applications will also be considered from applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree in one of these fields and a master’s degree in deaf education or a related field. Candidates who are in the final stages of completing a master’s degree in any of these fields will be considered but must have completed all degree requirements by the first day of contract to be hired.
  • Prior teaching and/or tutoring experience (including graduate teaching assistantship work and/or student teaching) in environmental science, biology, health sciences or a related field.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language.
