POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Northern Great Plains Program Coordinator (PC) position is responsible for supporting and strengthening MCC programs, partnerships and projects in the Northern Great Plains Region of Central & Eastern Montana, Northeastern Wyoming, and Western Dakotas. The PC will be supervised by The Northern Great Plains Program Manager (PM) and together, work to build upon MCC’s drought-resilient initiatives through engaging with a variety of stakeholders on both private and public lands. The PC will bolster on-the-ground restoration project efforts that aim to enhance fish and wildlife habitat across the Northern Great Plains Region. The PC will work across several of MCC’s programs, such as; Individual Placement, Conservation Field Crew, Tribal, and Youth Programs.

POSITION BENEFITS & INFORMATION:

• Location: Great Falls, MT (in-person/non-remote)
• Target Start Date: March 17th (flexible)
• Status: Non-Exempt
• Classification: Regular, Full Time
• Wage: $23/hour

PRIMARY DUTIES OF THE NORTHERN GREAT PLAINS PROGRAM COORDINATOR:

PROGRAMMATIC:

• Project management and development: Collaborate with the Project Manager (PM) and play a key role in managing impactful conservation projects, from enhancing mesic and grassland habitats to improving wildlife ecosystems. Identify exciting new opportunities for MCC Crews and Individual Placement (IP) members to make a difference.
• Monitoring: Hands-on monitoring of MCC-led projects across the Northern Great Plains (NGP) Region, ensuring the success of restoration efforts.
• Volunteer Engagement: Engage local communities by generating, managing, and recruiting volunteers to support new or existing restoration projects
• Lead Learning & Skill Development: Help organize specialized training sessions for AmeriCorps members and partner staff on riparian restoration, rural community engagement, and partnership building.
• Outreach: Design outreach materials and lead events to engage diverse stakeholders
• Strengthen Partnerships: Maintain and nurture relationships with existing partners and stakeholders while representing MCC at events and meetings, and sharing program updates and success stories.
• Expand Network: Build new partnerships with stakeholders to expand MCC’s reach and impact and create more opportunities for collaboration.
• Explore the Region: Travel extensively to connect with communities, attend local meetings, provide field support to MCC Crews, and advance critical conservation initiatives.
• Mentor Emerging Conservationists: Provide guidance and support to Big Sky Watershed Corps and Conservation Interns helping them grow as leaders in the field.

ADMINISTRATIVE:

• Program Administration: Play a key role in supporting reporting and administrative tasks related to NGP initiatives, ensuring smooth operations and successful outcomes.
• Compliance and Operations: Assist in crafting compelling grant reports, writing permits, managing budgets, and tracking project expenditures like travel, lodging, supplies, and consulting services, gaining valuable financial and organizational skills.
• Contribute to Funding Strategies: Collaborate with the Project Manager to identify and secure new funding opportunities, helping sustain and grow impactful conservation programs and community efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• A minimum of one year of experience in higher education, youth development, education, corps programming and/or natural resource work
• Ability to develop and meet deadlines
• Outstanding organizational skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences
• Proficient with computer programs such as Word, Excel, and Google Suite
• Able and willing to travel and work a variable schedule, including overnight travel for in-person meetings and public presentations
• A valid driver’s license and ability to be insurable per MCC parameters

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

• Experience working with rural and agricultural communities
• Previous experience in wildlife habitat, drought, climate, riparian, and/or grasslands-related work
• Experience in communications and marketing
• Experience in organizing, recruiting, and leading volunteer events
• Experience with ArcGIS and other mapping software
