Role and responsibilities

The Shelter & Settlements assistant plays a key role in the effective and efficient implementation of shelter and infrastructure projects in the assigned intervention areas.

In this context, the main responsibilities of the holder are:

Work in accordance with the NRC policies, tools, manuals and directives.
Assist in the implementation of the project in accordance with the action plan
Write reports on the progress of support activities on request from the supervisor or management.
Ensure the correct archiving of documents.
Support improvement actions linked to shelters and project installations and provides constructive suggestions to strengthen their efficiency and impact
Participate in awareness, communication and information meetings of communities benefiting from construction projects and monitoring the local contribution.
Under the supervision of the construction project officer, initiating the drafts of technical drawings and estimated quotes for construction projects.
Carry out the locations on the intervention sites.
Carry out the technical follow -up of the sites.
Assume responsibility for the conformity of construction materials and materials to the technical standards of NRC projects and in force in the DRC.
Support the recruitment activities of the occasional workforce.
Supervise the various intervention sites.
Prepare the requisition sheets to supply the materials with materials.
Collaborate with logistics teams and community members to ensure precise control of the quantities of materials delivered on the sites.
In coordination with the construction officer and the logistics department, manage stocks in the field and ensure an appropriate, transparent and efficient use of materials.
Ensure the supervision of the skilled and unskilled workforce (occasional workers), control the use of materials on construction sites and guarantee their return to the deposit at the end of the work.
Hold weekly meetings on the evolution of construction activities and forecasts for the following week.

2. Professional skills

As part of this recruitment, NRC seeks to recruit a candidate with the following professional skills and skills.

General professional skills:

Professional experience as a shelter or construction assistant in an emergency/or recovery humanitarian context.
Previous professional experience in complex and unstable contexts.
Knowledge of English an asset.
A2 diploma in civil engineering (buildings and public works), architecture, rural development or related field.
Experience in construction.
Knowledge of the socio-economic, legal and environmental context.
Knowledge of AutoCAD or equivalent software is an asset.
Knowledge of Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint software.
Master of French and Swahili.
Knowledge of local languages ​​in the area concerned is an asset
