Organizational Setting
The objective of the Department of Nuclear Energy (NE) is to foster the efficient and safe use of nuclear power by supporting interested Member States in: improving the performance of nuclear power plants, the nuclear fuel cycle, and the management of nuclear wastes; catalysing innovation in nuclear power and fuel cycle technologies; developing indigenous capabilities around the world for national energy planning; deploying new nuclear power plants; preserving and disseminating nuclear information and knowledge; and advancing science and industry through improved operation of research reactors.
The department has a dynamic, participative and interactive operating environment with inputs received from the Board of Governors, the General Conference, policy and decision-makers, and technical counterparts in Member States and the international development community.
The Division of Nuclear Power comprises the Nuclear Power Engineering Section, the Nuclear Power Technology Development Section, the Nuclear Infrastructure Development Section and the INPRO (International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles) Section. The Division provides core engineering, technological, human resource development and management support to interested Member States in the field of nuclear power.
The Nuclear Infrastructure Development Section helps Member States to have a better understanding of the requirements needed for implementing nuclear power programmes, to enhance their capabilities associated with the construction of their first nuclear power plant or new nuclear power plants, to enhance their abilities to develop the necessary infrastructure for introducing nuclear power on safe and sustainable manner, and to expand the use of an internationally recognized approach for the introduction of nuclear power, including a harmonized framework and qualitative data, through coordination throughout the IAEA.
Main Purpose
As a key member of the Nuclear Infrastructure Development Section, led by the Section Head, the Nuclear Programme Developer develops and maintains databases of countries embarking on nuclear power programmes, managing, collecting and disseminating information on new nuclear projects. In addition, he/she assists Member States in their efforts to build national nuclear infrastructure and provides technical assistance, especially as regards infrastructure building.
Role
The Nuclear Programme Developer plays several key roles in the team: (1) as an information officer, planning, developing and implementing activities aimed at helping Member States in their long-range planning of nuclear energy and R&D programmes using innovative nuclear technology or innovative institutional approaches; (2) as a scientific secretary, planning and leading meetings; (3) an analyst, preparing background information and research related to technical and review missions, and; (4) a technical and project officer, supporting technical cooperation (TC) projects.
Functions / Key Results Expected
Plan, develop and implement an information management system to support the IAEA’s activities with countries introducing nuclear power.
Plan and support complex technical and review missions to Member States, including preparatory and follow-up visits, including INIR (Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review), and the assessment of Member States’ needs.
Support complex TC projects, develop action plans and plan, organize and participate in seminars, workshops, expert missions and training courses.
Build and maintain strategic partnerships and alliances with a wide range of stakeholders in Member States in areas related to infrastructure to support new nuclear power programmes.
Communicate with internal and external stakeholders through the maintenance of the website, fact sheets and informational materials and support the use of information technologies to facilitate networking.

Remuneration
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $64121 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 36549, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks’ annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance.
