AWE is recruiting for Nuclear Safety Analysts at all levels of seniority (engineer, senior, principal).

AWE safety case teams are at the forefront of a wide variety of work, involving ground-breaking innovation and technical challenges across a wide range of projects associated with:

  • AWE’s multibillion-pound Capital Programme of new facilities
  • Planning future systems in support of the UK’s long-term strategic deterrent.
  • Maintaining and extending the life of existing facilities
  • Decommissioning of the redundant facilities.

Package –Nuclear Safety Analyst £35,720-£53,580 per annum.

Nuclear Safety Senior Analyst £44,990-£71,000 per annum.

Nuclear Safety Principal Analyst £58,500- £92,000 per annum.

Location – Reading / Basingstoke area

The degree of responsibility and range of work will vary with the role, from Analyst, through to Senior Analyst, and Principal Analyst.

As a Nuclear Safety Analyst, you will provide subject matter expertise in the assessment of nuclear, explosive, and other major hazards associated with actual, planned and/or decommissioned facilities, plant, equipment, or product. Ideally you will have demonstrable experience of working on multi-disciplined projects and be familiar with one or more of the following areas:

  • Produce risk assessments and safety justifications for a range of facilities including radioactive, explosives and chemical plant
  • Advise on strategies for the development of safety assessments (safety case/safety basis/risk assessments)
  • Complete complex safety analyses, assessments, and associated documentation.

Our Nuclear Safety Principal Analysts will advise on strategies for the development of safety assessments (safety case/safety basis/risk assessments), and develop and deliver complex safety analyses, assessments, and associated documentation to ensure regulatory compliance. This will include:

  • Lead and manage the technical input to the planning and production of key safety documentation to facilitate operations in challenging facilities.
  • Deliver safety assessments and other technical safety documentation to agreed AWE standards for exciting new project delivery
  • Work with process owners to ensure compliance with modern standards and support updates to company standard direction where relevant to achieve appropriate and efficient compliance.
  • Provides technical input to the design and/or delivery of technical training
  • Mentor nuclear safety analysts and senior nuclear safety analysts as part of a planned development activity

We are interested in hearing from candidates at various stages of their careers who have a working knowledge of safety assessments on nuclear projects and are interested in developing their career with us. Experience and skills required:

For each role you will require a Degree in a science or engineering based subject or vocational qualification (HND or equivalent) and/or extensive practical experience. A Professional membership to a relevant chartered body is also desirable, plus some of the following skills and experience, depending on the role applying against. For example:

  • Nuclear Safety Analysts:
  • Experience in the field of safety assessment for radiological, chemical and/or explosive hazards
  • The ability to undertake a range of safety assessment techniques
  • To have worked/operated in a high hazard and/or highly regulated industry.
  • Nuclear Safety Principal Analysts:
  • Knowledge and experience of managing and working on a range of safety cases across different industries ideally nuclear, radiological, chemical and/or explosive hazards
  • Experience in a nuclear, high hazard and/or highly regulated industry
  • Knowledge of the techniques used for Safety Case Assessment
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, report writing and presentation skills
