Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Medical Services Section within the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Baghdad. The incumbent reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer.
Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Head of the Medical Section in Baghdad, the nurse will be responsible for performing the following duties: • Responds to emergency calls and assists doctors in providing adequate care and performing respective duties in the treatment of the patient. • Performs ECG, vital signs recording, blood drawing along with routine nursing duties as required. • Prepares patient for different interventions and escorts patient to referral medical facilities as required. • Assesses needs of clients visiting the walk-in clinic; provides care/advice on hygiene and preventive health. • Shifts duties including nights and weekends if required. • Performs nursing care and all activities related to his/her professional clinical experience. • Responsible for emergency room and doctor’s consultation rooms, ensures that all equipment is routinely maintained in working order (e.g. defibrillators, monitors, ECG machine) • Ensures safety of the patients in the clinic. • Receives patients in the clinic and records necessary data for triage and treatment. • Applies to all patients a professional, fair and equal treatment regardless of their ethnic background. • Assists in providing health education and addressing work environment and occupational health issues. • Maintains patients’ records and files, always maintaining full confidentiality. • Substitutes for other equivalent roles in the clinic when needed. • Keeps the clinic’s statistics. • Updates monthly medical records • Responsible for the pharmacy operations including dispensing of medications, safe management of vaccines, and updating the pharmacy store on a monthly basis. • Initiates pharmaceutical requisitions bi-annually. • Ensures proper handling of expired medications and their disposal as per current procedures. • Performs other related duties as required.

Education
Completion of high school and further formal education/training in nursing, such as a registered nurse, is required.

Work Experience
At least 7 years of progressively clinical experience in the nursing field and hospital is required. Experience in emergency room and basic life support is required. Experience in pharmacy management (supply, maintenance, dispensing) is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the positions advertised, fluency in English and Arabic is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
