The Nurse (G6) will be critical in enhancing workplace health and safety by identifying and mitigating hazards through effective surveillance, ergonomic evaluations, and incident reviews. The candidate will implement safety measures to minimize health risks and ensure the well-being of workplace personnel. The incumbent shall work on an as-needed basis for a minimum of 4 hours per day for five days per week . The incumbent will be informed in writing at least five days in advance of the dates and hours and will be compensated at an hourly rate for the entire period of the assignment. This can occasionally also include duties during the weekend.

Duties and Responsibilities

Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Logistics, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all peacekeeping missions around the world. This position is located in the United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC)/United Nations Information and Communication Technology Facility (UNICTF) in Valencia (Spain) within the Office of the Chief, Service for Geospatial Information and Telecommunications Technologies (SGITT). The incumbent reports administratively to the P-5 Chief of Unit within the Office of the Chief, SGITT and technically to the Head Nurse, UNGSC Clinic. Responsibilities Within delegated authority, a Nurse at this level will be responsible for the following duties: • Undertake surveillance for preventable health and safety hazards in the work environment by: – Sampling, measuring or testing for physical, chemical, and biological exposures in the workplace environment that may generate risks to the health of workers. – Evaluating ergonomic factors that may affect workers’ health through surveys and direct inspections. – Reviewing incidents. – Assessing general working conditions and behaviours. • Assess Health and Safety Risks by: – Performing task specific Job Hazard Analyses and location specific Workplace Risk Assessments. – Investigating occupational accidents, exposures and near-misses. – Assessing incidents using accepted UN risk methodologies. – Developing mitigation strategies for staff and management. • Performs clinical assessment of patients visiting the walk-in clinic; provides care/advice accordingly or facilitates referral to an outside physician, as indicated. • Responds to emergency calls and provides emergency care; ensures effective liaison between patient and private doctor, paramedics, family members, and colleagues as appropriate; documents case findings. • Performs diagnostic and screening tests such as: ECG, laboratory (blood and urine), and other tests as required. • Ensures preparedness of staff travelling on missions or reassignments, including administration of appropriate vaccine, instructions on malaria prophylaxis and other travel-related ailments and advice on other travel related interventions. • Provides occupational health and safety training and capacity development by: – Delivering occupational health & safety and First aid training courses. – Ensure that personnel are aware of their roles and responsibilities in all aspects of health and safety work, including compliance with health and safety policy. Accessibility • Performs medical briefing for incoming staff and conduct first aid training. • Contribute to the Emergency planning and preparedness with a specific focus on responders’ safety and health. • Maintains records of patients’ medical data including consultations and treatment. • Maintains strict confidentiality with regards to patient’s medical records, patient management and treatment. • Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications/special skills

Bachelor Degree in Nursing or equivalent from an accredited institution is required. Current license as a professional registered nurse is required. Recognized qualification(s) in occupational health or safety is desirable. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Basic Cardiovascular Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent emergency medical care certifications are desirable A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible clinical experience in the medical field or hospital after nursing qualifications is required. Experience in emergency care, occupational health and travel medicine is desirable. A minimum of four (04) years of direct experience in occupational safety and health, environmental health, workplace safety or risk sciences or related areas is desirable. Experience in handling confidential and sensitive information is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the main working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Fluency in Spanish (both oral and written) is required.
