Mental illnesses represent a significant burden on society, the economy, and the individuals affected. However, it is not well known what environmental factors are involved that can mediate resilience or vulnerability to mental illness during critical life stages. A 20-year follow-up MINIMat trial has the potential to contribute to our understanding of how exposure to various environmental factors (major life events/traumas, environmental pollutants, nutrition and diet, physical activity, social and economic conditions, and behavioral patterns) may impact mental health in adulthood, especially when the exposure to these factors occurs during sensitive periods of development such as early life and transition through puberty.

Key Responsibilities:

The Nurse will report to the Research Investigator/Medical Officer and will be responsible for anthropometric measurements, USG for pregnancy profile, sample collection and data entry within the guidelines of the research protocols; and organizational values and guidelines. The specific areas of responsibilities are detailed below:

• Conduct a brief interview of the study participants and collect different biological samples maintaining all the aseptic measures;
• Perform anthropometric measurements of the study participants;
• Perform Ultrasonogram (pregnancy profile) of the study participants;
• Enter data in Laptop/tab computer appropriately;
• Set plan, coordinate and work with team to implement research activities; Monitor risk management and infection control activities which includes but not limited to hand hygiene, handling of sharps, biomedical waste management, aseptic techniques etc.;
• Manage and organize the safe disposal of waste and hazardous substances at the study sites;
• Supervision and monitoring of supporting study staffs;
• Check and maintain medical supplies for the study site;
• Ensure that all equipments used in and around the study room are clean and well maintained for ready to use, sensibly used and preserved/disposed appropriately;
• Report to Research Investigator/Medical Officer on sample and data collection on monthly basis.

Required qualifications and experience:

• Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery / B Sc. in Nursing with valid registration from the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council;
• 1 year relevant experience. Candidates who have completed Fellowship in Nursing from icddr,b will get preference.

Location: Matlab

Contract Type and duration:

• Short-Term Contractual Service Agreement; duration will be 11 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance.

Salary & benefits:

• Tk. 43,423/- (consolidated) per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances.
• Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and day-care facilities are subject to space availability.
