Job Summary The Nurse Practitioner in the Student Health and Wellness Center at UWM directs outpatient care within an integrated care model. As part of a dynamic team of health care professionals which includes physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and mental health providers, the nurse practitioner provides primary and immediate care to a largely young adult population of graduate and undergraduate students.
Job Responsibilities
  • Assesses, diagnoses, and treats illnesses, and manages chronic health problems
  • Develops, implements, collects data, and evaluates primary health care services as directed by individual care plans
  • Develops individualized care plans based on medical assessments in accordance with medical best practices and established rules and regulations
  • Educates patients and their support systems on how to manage conditions and to promote the health and well-being of patients and those around them
  • May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students

This position has consistent work hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday-Friday. There are no weekend, evening, or on-call responsibilities and no insurance billing or paperwork.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possess state APNP license to practice in Wisconsin
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited nurse practitioner program
  • Certified Family or Acute Care/ Adult nurse practitioner by AANP or ANCC
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more years experience in the practice of medicine post training environment
  • Two or more years of Outpatient/ Urgent Care/ER practice experience within the last 5 years
  • Previous experience working in a college clinical health setting or with young adults who are underserved and/or from historically marginalized backgrounds
  • Experience working with variety of mental health issues and prescribing psychotropic medications or working in collaboration with a psychiatrist to manage more complex mental health patients
  • Experience performing routine office surgical procedures such as minor laceration repairs and incision and drainage of abscesses
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with treatment team colleagues and other professionals who are working with shared patients
  • Demonstrated ability to modify work and treatment approach to meet the changing needs of a student population
Target Salary Range $92,00 – $95,000
