Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner in the Perioperative Anesthesia and Vascular Access Service will be responsible for:

• Collaborating with the perioperative and anesthesia teams to provide comprehensive care to patients preop/intraop/postoperatively in the main OR.
• Conducting patient/family interviews and documenting patient medical history, review of systems, physical exam in the preanesthetic evaluation.
• Communicating the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of anesthesia to patients and families
• Offering expertise as consultant and educator to peri-operative nursing staff
• Participating in or leading the collection of data for anesthesia cancelations, criteria changes, and improvement processes
• Ordering, scheduling, and/or performing laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures such as urinalyses, pregnancy, blood tests, and x-rays
• Functions as a liaison between the anesthesia attending in charge, primary anesthesia, nursing team, and family to optimize patient care
• Prescribing and administering premedications prior to anesthesia
• Placement of PICC lines in patients from infancy to adult using ultrasound and fluoroscopy in the operating room and cardiac catheterization laboratory.
• Consulting with various services related to vascular access devices and complications of vascular access.
• Placement of peripheral IVs with and without ultrasound on patients with difficult vascular access sites in the operating room and pre-op areas

To qualify, you must have:

• A Master of Science in Nursing and certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner
• MA licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse
• 5 years of nursing experience in pediatrics (inpatient or outpatient) is preferred

*Sign-on bonus of $5,000.00 for full time NP hires (who have not worked at BCH in the past 2 years.)
