Brief description of the organization
Yazda is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 2014 in response to the genocide committed by the self-declared Islamic State (“IS”) against the Yazidis and other communities in Iraq and Syria. Since its inception, Yazda has worked with local and international partners to provide Yazidi survivors, IDPs, and refugees with humanitarian, accountability, and advocacy services in their post-genocide recovery. Yazda has been working in Iraq since October 2014 and operates out of the main offices in Duhok in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and out of the Sinoni office in Sinjar in Nineveh Province. Yazda is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the United States and is registered in Erbil, Baghdad, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, and Australia.

Introduction: Yazda is seeking to hire a Nurse under a Service Contract to join our team in Sinoni-Sinjar, Nineveh, Iraq, for the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) project.
Terms of Employment
  • Contract Type: Service Contract
  • Duration: Initially for 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.
  • Working Hours: the nurse will be working 100 working hours per month, field-based with regular visits to villages within Sinjar.
  1. Background
The Mobile Medical Unit project is one of the key healthcare interventions implemented by Yazda to provide essential medical services to underserved communities, particularly those affected by conflict and displacement. The MMU covers 14 villages in Sinjar and offers services such as general healthcare, mental health support, non-communicable disease (NCD) management, and health awareness campaigns. Given the critical nature of this work, it is essential to have a dedicated and qualified nurse to assist in delivering quality healthcare.
  1. Objective
The objective of hiring a nurse is to provide primary healthcare services, patient care, and health education to the communities served by the MMU. The nurse will be an integral part of the MMU team, assisting in day-to-day field activities, medical assessments, patient follow-up, and medication management.
  1. Key Responsibilities
3.1 Primary Healthcare Delivery
  • Provide nursing care and support during MMU field visits to the 14 villages.
  • Conduct health assessments and assist medical doctors during patient consultations.
  • Administer medications and vaccinations as per prescribed guidelines.
  • Maintain patient records, including monitoring vital signs and documenting medical history.
NCD Management and Health Education
  • Support the team in managing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes and hypertension.
  • Provide health education sessions to raise awareness about NCD prevention, management, and healthy lifestyle choices.
3.2 Community Engagement
  • Assist the Community Mobilizer in health awareness activities, such as women’s health education, antenatal care (ANC), and family planning (FP).
  • Facilitate household visits as necessary to provide continued care and follow-up with patients.
3.3 Coordination and Collaboration
  • Collaborate with the MMU doctors, psychologists, community health officers, and other team members to provide comprehensive care.
  • Work closely with the pharmacy officer to ensure proper medication storage and availability.
3.4 Reporting and Documentation
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of patient records and reports.
  • Contribute to the monthly and quarterly reports on healthcare services provided by the MMU.

  • The nurse will report directly to the MMU Project Manager and will work closely with the rest of the MMU team.

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a diploma from a recognized nursing school.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in a clinical or community health setting.
  • Skills:
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience in managing NCDs, maternal and child health (MCH), and community health programs.
    • Ability to work independently in field settings and under challenging conditions.
    • Knowledge of Yazidi and/or Arabic language is preferred but not required.
  • Professional Registration: Must hold a valid nursing license in Iraq.
