This position is responsible for managing facilities and infrastructure construction projects for DNR’s Webster Forest Nursery and Seed Programs. Webster is one of the premier state forest seedling nurseries in the country. Our staff has grown and shipped over 950 million seedlings since the nursery was established in 1957. These seedlings have been planted on public, private, and DNR-managed forest lands throughout Washington and nearby states. We have consistently invested in our infrastructure in the last 15 years and are now accelerating our efforts by undertaking numerous facilities maintenance, replacement, and expansion projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to support facility improvements for a highly functioning program that provides a critical public service into the next decade.
Webster Forest Seedling Nursery has considerable infrastructure at our 270-acre complex in Tumwater, Washington. Our current facilities include 75,000 square feet of climate-controlled greenhouses, 13 high-capacity irrigation wells, 24 buildings containing 66,000 square feet, and a total asset value (facilities, equipment, and supplies) in excess of $60 million. We are currently in the process of constructing a new 15,200-square-foot seed processing center and a 2,000-square-foot storage building. We are also scoping a potential expansion of the nursery with a goal of eventually constructing up to 66,000 square feet of additional greenhouses and a 17,500 square foot seedling processing facility if funded by the legislature. Scoping includes environmental and cultural resource assessments, as well as stormwater planning and construction. Though some of these projects are managed by construction project coordinators from DNR’s Facilities Section, there will be numerous projects that will be managed by the Nursery Construction Project Coordinator using multi-year grants that have been obtained for this purpose. These projects include, but are not limited to:
Responsibilities:
Project Management:
Development of Cost Estimates and Project Documents:
Though this is a current 2-year project position, we plan to seek an ongoing funding source to eventually make this position permanent. The incumbent will have an opportunity to compete for that position when it becomes available.Qualifications
