Organizational Unit Overview The mission of the college is to serve as a national model for transforming the health of rural under served regions through excellence and innovation in nursing education, leadership, research, scholarship and practice.
Job Duties The East Carolina University, College of Nursing is currently seeking applications for a full-time 12-month faculty position to teach graduate students in the Nurse Anesthesia Program, primarily in the DNP Core Courses. Teaching will include courses in practicum the didactic portions of the program and mentor nurse anesthesia students in scholarly projects. Serves a member of the ECU CON Faculty Organization and Graduate Faculty Organization and other Committees/Task Forces as appropriate with the College of Nursing and Nurse Anesthesia Program.
Courses are taught primarily in an online, distance education delivery format; however, this position requires two to three days a week of on-campus for meetings, assisting with simulation and committee work.
Responsibilities include teaching, developing, and evaluating relevant courses within the DNP program, and directing and or supervising Nurse Anesthesia DNP projects. In addition, participates in recruitment, interview, and recommendation process of prospective students.
Candidates may be considered for fixed term at the title/rank of Clinical Assistant Professor or Clinical Associate Professor. Appointments are commensurate with education and experience.
Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b. 457).  This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS). Additionally, this position offers multiple voluntary options for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance as well as various supplemental plans including Critical Illness, Flexible Spending Accounts, Cancer, and Disability.
Minimum Education/Experience A doctoral degree is required. A PhD in Nursing or clinical doctoral degree (DNP) is preferred, however, a PhD in a closely related discipline with a graduate nursing degree (MSN or higher equivalent) is acceptable. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions and conferred by the time of hire.

  • Demonstrated experience in Quality Improvement project content and competency to teach and direct DNP scholarly projects for the education of nurse anesthetists.
  • Effective literature searching, academic writing, and database skills to teach and direct DNP projects.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to work with a diverse population of students.
  • Candidates should have at least two years of APRN experience.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation A valid non-restricted North Carolina registered nurse (RN) license. If APRN current certification as an APRN or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) required upon employment.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in scholarly projects (writing, effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills, and experience with IRB and publication processes), technology, and have teaching experience in DNP project coursework. Knowledge of quality improvement, leadership, and healthcare informatics is preferred. Online teaching experience is preferred.
