With more than 40 years of experience forging multisector partnerships and with expertise in science, economics, technology, advocacy, and dozens of other specialties, PATH develops and scales up innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing heath challenges.

PATH’s Malaria, Neglected Tropical Diseases program is a leader in the effort to end malaria illnesses and deaths, refines and develops tools and approaches, invests in national programs, and builds data to empower national governments to pursue malaria control and elimination. We work directly with national governments in low and middle-income countries to select, adapt and scale appropriate service delivery and system strengthening interventions to address health challenges specific to malaria.

PATH seeks a Nutrition Technical Advisor for the United States Government (USG)-funded “Reaching every at-risk community and household with malaria services” (REACH Malaria) global project. REACH aims to provide implementation support services and technical assistance to countries to accelerate progress in comprehensive delivery of facility and community-based malaria services, including malaria case management, prevention of malaria in pregnancy (MiP), malaria diagnostics, community health, data collection and use for service delivery, and other malaria prevention interventions. Additionally, PMI Malaria REACH in Malawi will support nutrition activities at national, facility and community levels, and will predominantly target selected health facilities in five districts with poor nutritional indicators.

The Nutrition Technical Advisor will report to the PMI REACH Malaria Malawi Chief of Party and will be responsible for ensuring that nutrition responses in the project are supported with quality technical inputs, drawing upon Malawi’s health and nutrition strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership:

  • Lead the design and implementation of integrated, high-quality nutrition interventions aligned with PMI REACH Malaria goals.
  • Provide programmatic and strategic leadership, setting priorities in designing and managing the implementation of the project’s nutrition activities in collaboration with other PMI REACH Malaria Technical Advisors and the implementation team.
  • Provide technical leadership to the development of guidelines, training materials, tools and other materials in collaboration with other technical teams, partners, and key government stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership to incorporate nutrition in capacity building activities and implementation tools.

Program Quality and Implementation

  • Ensure adherence to PATH and donor quality standards across all nutrition activities.
  • Contribute to the project annual work planning process and donor reporting in close collaboration with project technical leads, MEL team, partners and government stakeholders.
  • Lead the coordination and preparation of quality and timely donor reports in nutrition.
  • Provide technical assistance to the development of relevant national plans, strategies, and policies in nutrition.
  • Support the monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) team, including the development of robust monitoring plans, context specific indicators, baselines, reviews and evaluations in line with the project design and donor guidelines.
  • Conduct field visits to project sites; work with implementation teams to understand impacts, operational challenges, and continuously identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Contribute to organizational learning on nutrition ensuring that learning from the project is shared across the Country Office and our partners, as well as with colleagues in the wider global health and nutrition community in PATH.

Networking & External Engagement:

  • Represent PATH and the PMI REACH Malaria project at national and district-level nutrition coordination forums, technical working groups, and with key stakeholders.
  • Strengthen relationship with the government, donors, and civil society organizations and other implementing partners.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from across PATH to ensure cross learning and alignment with global best practices.

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Masters degree in Nutrition, Public Health or related field and equivalent experience.
  • At least 7-10 years of progressive experience in Nutrition programming, preferably within the Malawian health system.
  • Strong technical knowledge of nutrition and health systems, including community-level service delivery and civil society engagement.
  • Experience in training and capacity building of health and nutrition workforce.
  • Effective communicator with experience in stakeholder engagement and networking.
  • Strong track record in program design, monitoring and evaluation skills, including designing pathways to sustainable impact at scale.
