Hours: 18.5 Hours

Salary: £12,500 – £13,250 depending on experience.

Accountable to: Hugglescote Community Church (HCC) Trustees. A line manager will be appointed by the trustees.

Aim: To oversee and develop the outreach ministry of Hugglescote CC into the community including through the use of The Oasis building, relationships with the local community, and introducing people to HCC. Working together with the café manager to this aim.

Purpose:

  1. To increase the number of people who know Christ personally through the work of The Oasis and HCC.
  2. To further develop the activities of The Oasis making it relevant to the community, helping them to see the value of being part of a Church family.
  3. To facilitate the work of the HCC, through the Oasis, in enabling people of all ages to find a strong and mature faith, equipped to serve God.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To develop and coordinate The Oasis as a key meeting place for the local community. This will include:
    • Overall planning of the activities in the Café, together with the Management Committee and The Oasis café manager in deciding the best use of its facilities.
    • Together with The Oasis Café manager oversee the marketing of the facilities and events held at the Oasis through digital channels (website, social media etc.) and community advertising.
    • Having a willingness to talk to customers about faith.
    • To initiate new projects and groups were appropriate.
  2. To liaise with the parish council, schools, Heartland Youth for Christ, other churches, and local organisations in order to grow and develop The Oasis.
  3. Attend Oasis Management Committee and Hugglescote Community Church meetings as necessary.
  4. To attend worship at Hugglescote Community Church and were appropriate contribute to the services.
  5.  To work with the Safeguarding Officer to ensure that all activities are safe from harm and to be up to date with Safeguarding Policies
  6. To fulfil any other mutually agreed responsibilities deemed appropriate by the HCC Trustees

Personal Qualities

  • Experience of Fresh Expressions/Pioneer Ministry or will have had past experience of community engagement and a proven track record for this work. Showing an understanding of un-churched culture,
  • Show a deep spirituality and spiritual maturity with the wisdom to value other people’s faith journeys, comfortable amidst doubt and at home with questions without needing to give answers. Have missionary gifts with a passion for Jesus and an ability to share all forms of Christian spirituality.
  • To be willing to take risks, to learn along the way; able to be both flexible and resilient. To be an adventurer and pioneer with the courage to break new ground.
  • An enjoyment of being with people and building relationships, being a willing listener and sensitive enough and flexible enough to respond to their needs. Good communication skills, with an enthusiasm for ministry and an ability to inspire/motivate others.
  • Be committed to identifying, training and enabling other volunteers.
  • An ability to implement ideas and see them come to fruition.

Oasis Cafe

The Oasis Community Cafe is a community project run by Hugglescote Community Church. It was set up some ten years ago and has run a wide variety of groups and projects over the years including a food bank and Messy Church.
