We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Grade 2 Occupational Therapist with excellent clinical skills and enthusiasm to work in our community-based supportive multidisciplinary team. About the role

This role provides a fantastic opportunity to develop clinical skills in community health services, from assessments and prescription of assistive technology to home modifications and independent living skills training, you’ll play a crucial role in enhancing the well-being of our community. Reporting directly to the Manager of Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology Services we are an innovative, supportive and friendly OT team and have a proven culture of success, diverse skills and experience, with a strong clinical supervision structure that delivers services within the communities in the Eastern suburbs. This position provides a great opportunity to develop clinical skills within the area of community health services, including assessment and prescription of assistive technology, home modifications, independent living skills training and carer/staff training.

What you will be doing

Key responsibilities

  • Independently and effectively manage a community Occupational Therapy caseload of clients with complex, chronic and lifelong conditions including; progressive neurological disease, disability, aged care and palliative care
  • Provision of OT services that may include the following: assessment and management of prescription of assistive technology; minor and major home; vehicle modifications; home safety and functional assessments; postural assessment and intervention for seating; cognitive assessment and intervention; independent living skills training, community access and carer education/training
  • Work with eligible clients from various funding streams including HACC, My Aged Care/CHSP, Home Care Package, NDIS
  • Work as an effective member of the Occupational therapy/Speech pathology team and wider multidisciplinary team and participate in ongoing service development
  • Provide supervision and mentoring to Occupational Therapy students and Allied Health Assistants
  • Engage with the community and external stakeholders to develop our services

What you will bring

Key Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (or equivalent) and hold current registration with AHPRA, SWEP registration (Green, Amber or Red)
  • Experience and knowledge in either Aged care or Disability sectors highly valued
  • Demonstrated organisational ability in time and caseload management and to work autonomously providing high quality, accessible, flexible and client-centred services
  • Demonstrated commitment to evidence based practice and ability to translate this into practice
  • Demonstrated commitment to client focus and interdisciplinary approach to service provision and ability to show initiative and flexibility

Attributes

  • Clinical skills in the delivery of Occupational Therapy services with any one of the following; progressive neurological, mental health or disability diagnosis, chronic disease, age related conditions.
  • Understanding of fee for service model of care, NDIS and My Aged Care
  • Basic level of skill and understanding in prescribing assistive technology and minor home modifications
  • Ability to function as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate and work with people from a diverse range of social, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Bilingual language skills are highly valued
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement and health promotion principles
  • Effective time management and prioritisation skills
  • Demonstrated behaviours consistent with AccessHC value
