Description

Duties and responsibilities:

 

This is an analytical-type, professional position designed to coordinate various aspects and/or activities of the Americas Competitiveness Exchange Program in the fulfillment of the mission of the Competitiveness, Innovation and Technology Section of the Department of Economic Development. To achieve this, the person under the supervision of the Chief of the CIT Section of the DED and the DED Director is assigned all the following responsibilities:

– Research, compile and synthesize information in support of the department/section and mission (e.g. projects, cases, initiatives), development and strengthening of relations with Member States, key institutions and organizations, and promotion of dialogue and cooperation activities related to the Americas Competitiveness Exchange, including but not limited to: responding to inquiries from Member States, coordinating or overseeing the organization of meetings, conferences, presentations, events, seminars; following up on the development of joint activities at the hemispheric, regional and national level, and networking activities;

– Analyze trends and events as it relates to the Americas Competitiveness Exchange, recommending actions, drafting talking points and speeches, and participating in the elaboration and reviewing of reports and publications, and their dissemination among scholars, practitioners and other interested parties;

– Make proposals for, and participate in, the formulation and execution of projects, activities (roundtables, webinars, expert discussions, promotional events) and initiatives for the organization of the Americas Competitiveness Exchange;

– Manage and monitor technical and operational support to the host country and OAS Member States in the organization of the Americas Competitiveness Exchange;

– Manage and monitor the work to produce and edit the content for the Americas Competitiveness Exchange;

– Identify opportunities for collaboration with other agencies in the organization/preparation/implementation of the Americas Competitiveness Exchange program;

– Collaborate and liaise with partners in the areas of competitiveness as it relates to the Americas Competitiveness Exchange, including but not limited to the Competitiveness Authorities of OAS Member States and Permanent Observer countries;

– Prepare reports for specific activities as it relates to the Americas Competitiveness Exchange;

– Monitor the execution and accounts of project-specific activities, following up on administrative and financial actions in liaison with appropriate staff members;

– Monitor and supervise subcontractors and review documents they submit;

– Support and participate in various department-specific initiatives and dialogue promotion as related to the area of work, including drafting, reviewing and editing for consistency and language, correspondence, reports, cooperation agreements, proposals and joint proposals, budgets, financial reports, work plans, documents and publications. Also, review design/layout of publications;

– Perform other duties, as it relates to the implementation of the ACE, as assigned by the Chief of the CIT Section in the DED or the DED Director.

qualifications:

 

Education & Experience :

Essential: First University Degree (Bachelor) in International Affairs, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field in similar positions including project management and 4 years of relevant experience at national or international OR Advanced University Degree (Master) in one of the fields listed above and 2 years of relevant experience.

Desirable: Experience or knowledge of the OAS mandate and priorities as related to the area of work and/or the dynamics of the Inter-American agenda and system.

Computer Skills: Ability to effectively work using Microsoft Office (e.g. Outlook, Word, and Excel), and other software applicable to the area of work.

Languages:

Essential – Proficient in at least two of the official languages of the OAS (read, write and communicate).

Desirable – Working knowledge of other two OAS official languages.

Personal Competencies: Client Orientation, Knowledge Sharing, Teamwork, Interpersonal Skills. Ability to clearly communicate in the languages required for the post.

– Compensation:
Professional Category: Remuneration = Basic Salary + Post Adjustment
Net of taxes for non-US citizens

US citizens tax reimbursement: US Citizens are reimbursed for most taxes paid on OAS remuneration.

– Paid Annual Leave: 21 days from 1st year. Increase to 30 days within 5 years.

– Sick Leave and Parental Leave.

– Health Insurance: OAS pays 2/3 of premium.

– Pension and Savings Plans: In addition to salary, OAS contributes 14% of pensionable remuneration to a Retirement and Pension Plan. Staff contribute 7%.

– Additional benefits (dependent on contract type): Mobilization allowance, repatriation grant, language allowance home leave travel, dependency allowance, life insurance.
