Older Youth Pathways Specialist

SCOPE OF WORK:

The IRC in Silver Spring Youth team serves approximately 400 clients annually across programming including Refugee School Impact, Refugee Youth Mentorship, and Afghan Support to School Impact. The Older Youth Pathways Specialist will serve a caseload of 30-40 youth per year, all age 15-24 years of age through Afghan Support to School Impact Programming. The specialist will conduct program intakes, create individual service plans with youth, provide information and guidance on academic and career options, connect clients with resources to reduce barriers to goal achievement, assist with applications for college/financial aid/scholarships and job opportunities and broadly work with youth to achieve educational and career goals.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, or related field of study is preferred. Comparable work experience considered.
  • Must have, or be willing to proactively build, a deep understanding of educational requirements and pathways for ESOL, GED, vocational and postsecondary options for client guidance
  • Previous tutoring, leadership-building or recreational experience with youth required
  • Must be proactive, feel comfortable taking the lead, and have a great attention to detail
  • Superb organizational skills, detail-oriented, able to work independently and as a part of team
  • Good written/oral communication skills
  • Volunteer experience preferred, in particularly in youth-related programs
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; Bilingual in Dari, Pashto, Spanish, or other client language is a plus but not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook);
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with current insurance, and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area (home visits, agency visits, service provider visits etc.);
  • Enthusiastic about working in a multi-cultural setting.

Working Environment:

  • Standard, professional office environment;
  • Regular travel to off-site locations varies;
  • Access to a reliable vehicle to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area;
  • Occasional need for work outside of traditional business hours.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
