On line Translator and Interpreter

Background:

Cooperative Housing Foundation (CHF) International is a humanitarian organization providing urgent support to the people of Syria.  The GROW program aims to improve food security and transform agricultural market systems in NES Syria. Program activities are politically neutral, independent, and impartial.  We provide support to everyone based on need, not political, religious, ethnic, or tribal affiliation.

CHF is looking to hire an – English – Arabic translator & interpreter consultant full time for a period of 6-8weeks, within a 2 month period to translate workshop documentation and provide mostly online interpretation for workshops conducted online.

The translator & interpreter will be coordinating with the Sr. M&E Manager and is responsible for the following:

• Translate official documentation from English into Arabic and vice versa.
• Provide interpretation services in meetings when required via Skype/MS Teams/phone or any other online platform.
• Liaise and work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that translations are true to the original meaning.
• Compile terminology and information to be used in translations & interpretation, including technical terms such as those for Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning, supply chain, food security, livelihoods, agriculture and/or other technical material.
• Relay the style and tone of the original language.
• Manage work schedules to meet deadlines.

Key qualifications:

• Speak, read and write fluently in English and Kurdish is an advantage.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience as a professional translator and interpreter, preferably with familiarity of NGO and Development lingo.
• Proven track record of translating documents and providing interpretation services on the following thematic areas and command of terminology in both English and Arabic is highly desired: food security, agriculture, livelihoods, enterprise development, climate change.
• Bachelor`s Degree or equivalent experience.
• Translation qualification is desired.
• Computer/word processing and standard office software skills.
• Familiarity with online communication platforms (Teams, Zoom, etc.)
• Very good communication, interpersonal skill, and ability to work collaboratively as a team
• Flexibility and positive attitude/mindset
• Basic documentation skill
