What you will do

The One Refugee Approach Working Group (ORAWG) Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining relevant awareness-raising tools and efforts for the ORAWG, which may also include coordinated advocacy efforts amongst all members of the ORAWG. The ORAWG Coordinator is an employee of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Jordan and is seconded to the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) in Jordan, based in Amman.

The Coordinator will ensure effective functioning of the ORAWG, spearhead advocacy and operational initiatives, and ensure strong engagement by the NGO community with response leadership and coordination mechanisms.

The role holder will:

  • Act as focal point for the ORAWG, including external representation of the Working Group in a range of settings and forums, including senior-level coordination bodies. Act as liaison and represent the ORAWG with local, regional and global NGO fora (such as ICVA and InterAction).
  • Ensure that the ORAWG’s position on specific issues and interests are well represented at relevant platforms and meetings. As much as possible promote representation by ORAWG members themselves.
  • Supervise and lead the coordination of plenary and other thematic committees developed within the ORAWG, and ensure coordination between committees and member organisations, as well as with broader Forum objectives.
  • Ensure transparent coordination mechanisms and regular information-sharing among ORAWG members and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain a regular meeting schedule for the ORAWG throughout the calendar year, with at least two meetings every quarter, and one retreat per year for all members.
  • Lead and coordinate the ORAWG strategy process, oversee the development of a work plan for the plenary and any other committees established to advance the Working Group and revise outreach and stakeholder engagement strategy on an annual basis (calendar year) as well as the implementation
  • Manage the ORAWG’s budget, resources, and assets. Lead on donor reporting and proposal development related to the ORAWG, and support NRC on grant management.
  • Follow and undertake analysis on issues relevant to the ORAWG; synthesize and provide briefings on key concerns for ORAWG members. Research and draft policy, position and background/analysis papers on ORAWG issues, as tasked by the plenary.
  • Play a key role in enabling the effective development of advocacy initiatives called for by ORAWG members.
  • Involve refugee representatives and refugee communities in decision-making processes and representation, including during discussions, meetings, and conferences.
  • Ensure compliance and adherence to NRC and JRS policies, guidance and procedures, ensure that the Working Group’s internal guidance documents are updated and maintained.

What you will bring

  • University degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Law, Political Sciences, or any other related field.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a relevant field of humanitarian programming, actively engaging in working groups or coordination fora; coordinating or leading a working group is preferred.
  • Excellent working knowledge of English, and excellent written and verbal communication skills in Arabic.

What we offer

  • Duty station: Amman
  • Contract: Fixed term until 31 December 2024
  • Travel: Approximately 10%
