Offer Description

One vacant position for a full-time university assistant (m/f/d) at the Chair of Simulation and Modelling of Metallurgical Processes at the Department Metallurgy. Start from probably 01.05.2024 in an employment contract limited to four year. Salary Group B1 according to the Uni-KV, monthly minimum salary excl. Szlg.: € 3.578,80 for 40 hours per week 
(14 x per year), actual classification is according to previous relevant experience.

The Chair for Simulation and Modeling of Metallurgical Processes (SMMP) at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben, Austria, is recruiting new PhD candidate to strengthen a research team “Volume-average (VA) modeling of alloy solidification”. A series of VA-based solidification models have been developed and gradually applied to different casting processes, such as continuous and semi-continuous casting of steel/aluminum/copper, ingot casting, unidirectional solidification process of super alloy. However, those models need to be extended to enhance the application capacity and accuracy. The new position will focus on a research topic: “Refinement of the VA model by bridging microscopic transport phenomena”

Requirements:
Master degree in metallurgy, foundry engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, process technology or similar subjects;
Strong interest and some experience in numerical process simulations, programming with C, especially with CFD software ANSYS-FLUENT; 

Desired Qualifications:
Fundamental knowledge about solidification process;
Fluent in English and German (favorable).
