What is headspace’s Online Communities

Online Communities provides online peer to peer support via our online group chats to young people and family and friends. Online Communities is part of the headspace Digital Mental Health Programs, a division of headspace National which provides online support via digital mediums to young people and families across Australia. The headspace Online Community aims to provide opportunities for meaningful connection, peer support and real-time discussion about specific topics with professionals and peer workers.

About the role

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Online Communities Peer Support Moderator will work with the headspace Online Communities team to support the online community providing moderation and online peer support for young people aged 12-25 and their family and friends.

Working in this role you will:

  • Provide support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people by using your lived experience to share, learn, and support one-another within our Peer Support Group chats.
  • Be a part of team of peer workers including First Nations young people.
  • Be trained in peer support principles and online moderation skills to create a culturally safe space for young people to connect and share with each other.
  • Work predominately within our ‘Yarnspace’ chat, which is only for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Who we’re looking for

headspace is seeking someone who:

  • Is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young person (Operational requirement)
  • Is a supportive young person to help headspace’s online community and users via our peer support group chats
  • A friendly person to moderate group chats and speak about your lived experience. This includes monitoring messages from young people, reinforcing positive comments, and sharing your own experiences to support others.

  • Have the right to live and work in Australia

  • Satisfactorily undergo a headspace Police Check
