Job Description
The University Libraries at Virginia Tech has a full-time Open Publishing Coordinator position available. Virginia Tech Publishing launched in 2017 and currently publishes open access books, journals, digital scholarship, and audiovisual media. Reporting to the Publishing Director, the Open Publishing Coordinator will manage book publishing projects, consult with researchers on campus, and build awareness for the program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a firm grasp of the changing landscape of academic publishing, particularly with respect to emerging digital publication initiatives within libraries and university presses. Essential to the position is the ability to work closely with faculty and students from a wide range of disciplines, who are interested in pursuing open access scholarship.
Required Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree with relevant training and or experience or Master’s degree in library or information science, publishing, or other related field
-Experience with digital publishing standards, strategies, and best practices with an understanding of open access publishing trends
-Experience planning and managing projects, including setting priorities
-Experience with open source digital publishing tools such as Pressbooks, WordPress, Scalar, or Open Journal Systems
-Demonstrated experience working with faculty, staff, and students across multiple academic departments and colleges
Preferred Qualifications
-Master’s degree or higher in information science or related discipline
-Experience in academic publishing or a related field
-Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
-Experience with copyediting in scholarly publishing
A/P faculty Lecturer, regular, full-time appointment
Salary Information
$58,000 minimum dependent on qualifications and experience
