Position description

Since its founding in 1885, Goucher College has been a place of innovation and excellence. As a private, non-profit liberal arts college of approximately 1,000 undergraduate and 600 graduate students, Goucher is dedicated to teaching students to become complex problem-solvers prepared for the jobs of the future. Small class sizes, a rigorous curriculum, and dedicated faculty and staff allow for personalized mentorship of each student. Named one of the most innovative colleges in the country by U.S. News & World Report, Goucher is a leader in global education and was one of the first, and remains one of the only, colleges in the U.S. to provide 100% of its students with the opportunity to study abroad at no additional charge.

We invite applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant or associate professor in international relations who will also direct programming for the Sarah T. Hughes Field Politics Center in a new global direction, beginning in the 2025-26 academic year. We seek candidates with expertise in Latin American Politics, African Politics, or Middle East Politics who can also teach the core IR courses: Approaches to International Relations; International Political Economy; and the capstone Seminar in Theories of International Relations. The position carries a 3/2 teaching load with release time for directing the Sarah T. Hughes Field Politics Center.

The Sarah T. Hughes Field Politics Center was established with a goal of connecting the classroom and liberal arts education of Goucher College students with the world of practical politics and public affairs. We are excited for the Center to launch new programming with an emphasis on global politics that would be attractive to students in the Department of Political Science and International Relations.

Successful applicants will have teaching experience and demonstrate student-centered teaching and learning.
