Contribute to the administrative and operational activities of the Caribbean Biological Corridor Initiative’s Projects in the region, under UNEP’s Latin America and the Caribbean Office. Under the direct supervision of the UNEP Deputy Regional Director in Latin America and the Caribbean Office, the Individual Contractor will undertake the following tasks: 1. Transport: • Drive the official car for official meetings / functions of the Project Director and other project staff as needed. • Deliver and collect documents and packages to and from the United Nations, government offices, suppliers, etc. • Plan the completion of the regular maintenance service of the vehicle (s) of the project. • Keep the travel log of the vehicle (s) of the project up to date. 2. Inventory / Operations: • Collect all correspondence, send incoming e-mails and respond to e-mails on the issues under your responsibility. • Classify the digital and physical files of the Office, relating to operations and administration. • Bring a digital and printed file (if required) of the documents and files that are in your charge of. • Dispatch documents, publications and other printed materials, including express courier services or by electronic means. • Coordinate the logistics and operation of biodiversity monitoring missions, workshops and forums under the CBC Initiative’s Governance mechanism. 3. Correspondence: • Collect all correspondence, send incoming e-mails and respond to e-mails on the issues under your responsibility. • Classify the digital and physical files of the Office, relating to operations and administration. • Bring a digital and printed file (if required) of the documents and files that are in your charge. • Dispatch documents, publications and other printed materials, including express courier services or by electronic means. 4. Others: • Participate in the training activities dictated or received by the staff of the project team, including those that have to do with gender considerations.

Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO), located in Panama City, Panama, works closely with the 33 countries of the region and its activities are integrated into the Medium-Term Strategy and the Programme of Work approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA). This position is in the Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO), which for over the last 16 years has supported the Caribbean Biological Corridor Initiative (CBC), an intergovernmental platform in the region conformed by Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Jamaica through the implementation projects. The CBC works to promote coordinated actions that contribute to the conservation, connectivity, and maintenance of ecosystem services in the region. The CBC has agreed its Strategic Action Plan towards 2030 and is moving forward to address the main challenges in the region. Currently UNEP is implementing the project “Strengthening Ocean Management in the Caribbean Biological Corridor (CBC)”. The Individual Contractor will be under the supervision of the Deputy Regional Director shall provide administrative and operational expertise to the Caribbean Biological Corridor and will work full time, 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday at the CBC Secretariat Office in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and in close collaboration with the Programme Management Officer for Environmental Governance at the UN Environment Programme Latin America and the Caribbean Office and the Coordinator of the project at the UN Environment Programme Latin America and the Caribbean Office.
Qualifications/special skills
Academic Qualifications: • A bachelor´s degree in Secretary, Business Administration or Management is required. • A valid fifth class driving license is required. Professional Experience: • Three (3) years of demonstrable work experience as a driver, operations assistant, or logistics assistant is required. • Minimum experience of three (3) years in work related to office and logistics activities, as well as good knowledge of the Dominican Republic (particularly the border area with Haiti) is desirable. • Good record as a trustworthy, verifiable driver is required. • Proven experience in working and collaborating with representatives of government and different countries is desirable. • Previous experience coordinating the logistics and operation of biodiversity monitoring expeditions is desirable. • Previous experience with UN Environment is desirable. Language: • Fluency in Spanish is required. • Basic in English is desirable. Special Knowledge and Skills: • Experience in the use of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and database is desirable • Good knowledge of traffic rules and basic mechanics in order to allow adjustments or minor repairs to the assigned vehicle is desirable • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the best practices and administrative procedures of offices for projects in the field related to environmental management is desirable. • Good knowledge of UN administrative rules and regulations is desirable • Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks accurately by setting priorities while taking into account special assignments, frequent interruptions, deadlines, available resources, among others is desirable. • Ability to organize the workload by being aware of changing priorities and competing deadlines is desirable. • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with people of different cultures is desirable. • Understanding of gender considerations in the application to administrative and logistical operations of projects is desirable Competencies: Professionalism: Ability to apply knowledge of various United Nations administrative, financial and human resources rules and regulations in work situations.
