An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Operations Manager to oversee delivery of a highly
acclaimed and enjoyable visitor experience and successful commercial businesses at WWT Welney.
We welcome 28,000 visitors a year and our trading department has an annual turnover in excess
of £245,000.

The Role

This role will be supporting the Site Manager covering the visitor experience through an
eco-visitor centre and an internationally important wetland reserve.

We are looking for a proactive manager to maximise sales across our commercial business within
our Café, shop, admissions and Airbnb offer whilst leading your team to deliver high service
standards. You will focus on ensuring the visitor experience on and off site and commercial
business are all supporting WWT’s new and exciting Strategy.

You will ensure a constant drive for results through a positive, dedicated approach to change
and make business improvements with the ability to lead by example and drive forward our
commercial offer.

About You

To join our team you’ll need:

  • An eye for detail and the ability to seek new opportunities for the visitor journey on and
    off site
  • A strong financial acumen, understanding P&L, labour percentages and cost of sales
  • Proven experience in motivating and coaching team members
  • To bring creative ideas and positive solutions to this operational role
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to spot new commercial opportunities

WWT Welney is situated on the South-eastern boundary of the Ouse Washes in Norfolk, Britain’s
largest area of seasonally flooded land attracting internationally important populations of
wintering wildfowl and waders, including thousands of Whooper and Bewick’s swans. Comprising
540ha of lowland wet grassland supporting some of the country’s most threatened wader and
wildfowl species, this is a flagship site demonstrating the value of wetland restoration and
management.
