OPS Laboratory Technician

Research

• Perform rodent behavioral testing procedures
• Perform rodent recovery procedures and surgeries
• Conduct preclinical experiments related to chemotherapy toxicity and inactivity-induced muscle atrophy
• Maintain cell cultures
• Implement and conduct a variety of laboratory experiments (e.g. PCR, western blot, ELISA, immunohistochemistry)

Lab Management

• Oversee animal care and record-keeping
• Maintain detailed research records
• Ensure adequate inventory to carry out research
• Prepare and interpret results of laboratory experiments
• Prepare research findings

Training and Laboratory Compliance

• Maintain a safe work environment
• Maintain laboratory compliance with IACUC, EH&S laboratory safety, and other agencies

• Assist with developing and implementing EH&S and IACUC protocols

• Assist in teaching or instructing lab members in methods or procedures.
• Consult with researchers regarding laboratory procedures and experiments

Other Duties

• Coordinate special studies or projects as directed.
• Perform other tasks as requested and assigned by PI

Salary commensurate with laboratory experience

Associate’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization or a high school diploma and two years of related experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Individuals with an undergraduate degree in science and previous experience with basic molecular biology techniques are preferred. Individuals with prior experience working or volunteering in a basic science research lab are encouraged to apply.
