OPS Quantitative Biologist / Database Manager

The University of Florida Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center in Davie, Florida (the Croc Docs) is seeking a quantitative biologist / database manager interested in research related to datasets on invasive and native reptiles. The selected candidate will work closely with other quantitative ecologists on the team, wildlife biologists, and faculty. The successful candidate must be a self-motivated individual with functional knowledge and experience with analytical software and techniques and be comfortable writing and reporting results. Experience with R, MySQL, and ArcGIS is strongly preferred. The successful candidate must possess strong organizational skills, demonstrated knowledge of statistical analyses and related software, database management and maintenance, and the ability to work independently and with other researchers. Opportunities may exist for development of novel research projects and/or graduate school. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a suitable candidate is found.

Qualifications: This position is open to an entry level or intermediate level quantitative biologist / database manager with a strong understanding and working knowledge of statistical analyses for wildlife research as evidenced by experience. The successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in biology, wildlife ecology and conservation, statistics, or a related discipline. A master’s degree is strongly preferred. The candidate must be able to manage large multi-year datasets and assist in experimental design and implementation of field studies while applying best practices in data management. Candidate should have experience fitting statistical models, including generalized linear, additive, and mixed models, occupancy and detection models, and demographic models (abundance, mark-recapture, and population growth). He or she should be able to visualize and interpret results and feel comfortable writing reports and manuscripts independently.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
