We are seeking an experienced and client focused Oral Health Therapist to join our growing and thriving dental team.

This role is suitable for an experienced therapist but can also be adapted to support a new graduate who is excited to learn.

Working permanent part-time, (three days per week), there is scope to increase hours to full time by the end of the year if desired.

Located primarily in our Lilydale dental clinic you will provide evidence based, high quality, safe, patient centred care that meets best practice standards within a Community Health setting. This position gives you the opportunity to make a real difference to support and promote positive dental health within our community.

This position will involve working in the mobile dental units of the Victorian government’s Smile Squad program that provides services to local primary and secondary schools, as well as providing services in our clinics during school holidays. The mobile units and our clinics have the latest modern equipment and are fully equipped with the IT and dental equipment needed to provide a full range of services.

Position Responsibilities:

In this role you will:

  • Make available and actively promote oral health promotion and information to clients within the clinical setting
  • Deliver general dental services to clients of Inspiro, in line with all policies, procedures, and guidelines for practice, ensuring align with current Dental Practice Board of Victoria’s Code of Practice for Dental Therapists / Hygienists / Oral Health Therapists
  • Provide a “person-centred” model of care that focuses on the individual needs and circumstances of the client
  • Provide professional guidance and support as appropriate for dental auxiliaries, clerical staff, and any volunteers assisting the dental program
  • Ensure the appropriate referral of patients to Dental Officers
  • Meet individual targets set and provide feedback to the Operations Manager – Dental on issues related to clinic performance
  • Ensure high levels of customer service by undertaking duties in a professional and timely manner when dealing with clients and the public
  • Maintain and process patient records in accordance with DHSV Clinical Record Standards and the Health Records Act 2002
  • Comply with best practice infection control guidelines and conduct audits as requested
  • Participate in Inspiro’s continual quality improvement program including the development of new practice models and community development approaches
  • Participate in the creation of a culturally safe environment for staff, clients and the community in line with Inspiro’s commitment to cultural diversity and inclusiveness.

About You:

You will:

  • Hold a dental qualification eligible for registration as an Oral Health Therapist with AHPRA (extended adult therapy scope is desirable)
  • Have an Ionizing Radiation Apparatus Operating License in Victoria
  • Demonstrate experience and skill in a wide range of dental assessment procedures, treatments and activities for children and adults
  • Demonstrate ability to provide leadership and supervision to clinical support staff (preferred but not essential) and able to work as part of a team
  • Possess a commitment to Public Health Principles
  • Have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Hold membership of relevant Professional Association and participation in professional development programs
  • Demonstrate ability to achieve throughput, targets and objectives
  • Have good IT skills and familiarity with electronic medical records software (Titanium desirable)

Ideally you will have an understanding of public dental policies and practices and knowledge of a second language and culture would also be an advantage.
