Organic Farm Crew Assistant

Wanderwood is searching for a team-oriented and compassionate farm crew assistant to join our crew for the 2025 season. 

We are a small team managed by Matt and Kelsey (owners / farm managers) and we work cooperatively. All team members are asked to communicate with each other clearly and to respect and honor differences. We are an inclusive and LGBTQ+ friendly team. 

Farm assistant tasks will be directed and supervised by the farm and field managers.

Responsibilities will include: 

• Starting seeds and maintaining seedlings in an indoor growing space; observing and reporting on seedling health.
• Prepping planting areas using hand and mechanical tools.
• Planting seedlings and direct seeding outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Observing growing plants for signs of pests and disease.
• Pruning growing plants.
• Weeding and maintaining growing plants.
• Working with purpose both independently and with a team.
• Washing and packing produce following food safety protocols.
• Keeping farm records.
• Assisting with marketing and produce sales at weekly on-site farm stand.
• Managing and maintaining produce inventory and freshness in walk-in cooler.
• Working on farm infrastructure (irrigation, tool storage, etc.) as needed.
• Interfacing with guests during farm related programs and workshops

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, + TRAITS Farming can be a challenging and rewarding job. Our ideal farm employees:  

• Possess a willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Have familiarity with google sheets.
• Have and value people skills including patience, positive, and welcoming to other staff and guests of the farm.
• Accept instruction and constructive feedback.
• Can work through disagreements and find solutions; we value a sense of humor.
• Can honor and abide by sanitation and safety procedures including wearing masks in shared spaces if needed; maintaining good hand hygiene with frequent handwashing; remaining at home when you have symptoms or a known exposure to respiratory or food-borne illnesses.
• Maintain their personal hygiene, especially hand hygiene.
• Have a proactive mindset and can calmly problem-solving. We are a “don’t panic!” kind of farm.
• Have a team-oriented mindset and some schedule flexibility where needed.
• Have strong organizational and multitasking skills and pay attention to details.
• Possess reliable transportation to and from work as we are in a rural area with no public transportation.
• Can lift and carry approximately 50 lbs comfortably and safely.

Wanderwood connects guests and our community to vitally important forests, fields, lakes, streams and agricultural lands that surround us. We are a sustainable events business (hosting weddings, overnight guests, and other celebrations) built around a MOFGA certified organic farm.
