Partnering with our most dedicated activists, the Organiser Activist Leadership Development role is responsible for building a cohort of highly skilled and empowered activists in Australia who effectively organise other activists.
The role is responsible for developing and delivering a training syllabus that supports the empowerment of activists adopting a train-the-trainer approach with the intention of building volunteer trainers across the country to ensure the sustainability of the movement
Applying a community organising approach, this role coaches and mentors key activist leadership teams to ensure they have strategies and plans that align with the our people powered strategy and have the skills they need to lead other activists.

This role will be responsible for:
- Build and Strengthen a Movement for Human Rights: By working closely with Activism Leadership Committees and existing activists, you’ll help create strategies to grow activism and mobilisation in each region. You’ll coach, mentor and train these leaders, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to effectively defend human rights and ensure their activism is inclusive, sustainable and strategic.
- Develop and Deliver Best Practice Coaching and Training: Develop and deliver an inspiring and effective activist training program that centres on a train the train approach and empowering activists to have human rights impact.
- Coordinate Organising Activities Across Australia: You’ll collaborate with other Organisers to support the effective planning and coordination of organising activities and projects across the country. This includes training and coaching programs, improving communications and enabling reflection and learning.
- Foster strong relationships with activists, ensuring they have the support and guidance needed to succeed.
- Champion diversity, inclusion, and activist well-being in all aspects of your work.
- Evaluate and Improve Strategies: To ensure the ongoing success of AI’s work, you’ll be responsible for evaluating and improving the strategies and activities you implement. This includes providing advice and support to activists and colleagues as they evaluate and refine their own efforts.

- Relationship Building Skills: Demonstrate your ability to build strong relationships with activists, volunteers, and other stakeholders. Discuss how you have fostered collaboration and collective action within diverse communities to drive positive outcomes for human rights.
- Training and Coaching Experience: Highlight your experience in designing, delivering, and evaluating training programs for activists or similar audiences. Discuss specific examples of how your training and coaching efforts have empowered individuals to become effective agents of change.
- Strategic Thinking Abilities: Showcase your strategic thinking skills by describing your approach to developing and implementing innovative strategies for activist leadership development.
- Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Explain your commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and diverse movement. Discuss how you prioritise activist wellbeing, sustainable activism, and collective care practices in your work, and how you promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within your initiatives.
