About the role

The headspace Our Way Our Say program has been co-designed with First Nations Peoples living in the Darwin region as part of the National Suicide Prevention Trial. The program aims to deliver culturally safe, evidence informed, holistic, skills-based approach to mental health education and suicide prevention to middle and senior school students.

This role will support school-based facilitators, students and school communities to trial Our Way Our Say and continually adapt and improve the program in readiness for upscale. The Our Way Our Say Facilitator will deliver the program with fidelity and ensure that the cultural, clinical and reporting requirements are adhered to and data is collected appropriately.

The OWOS Facilitator will provide the NT Our Way Our Say Program Coordinator with support in the planning, development and delivery of the program. This will include the provision of cultural advice, stakeholder engagement, school recruitment and retention, establishing and facilitating network meetings, development of engaging activities and reporting any issues in program delivery as they arise.

Who we’re looking for

headspace is seeking someone with;

  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge and understanding of First Nations Peoples cultures, social and emotional wellbeing frameworks, risk and protective factors, help seeking and suicide prevention, particularly relevant to First Nations Peoples living in the Greater Darwin region.
  • An ability to be able to authentically engage & build relationships with middle and senior school students to deliver the program.
  • An understanding of youth mental health issues including suicide postvention, suicide, and the impact of trauma on school communities.
  • Experience in culturally safe program development and/or training and delivery in secondary school settings.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work and interact with a broad range of people, including school principals and leaders, teachers, health professionals, academic researchers, service providers, etc.
  • Highly developed communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience writing for, and presenting to, diverse audiences.
  • Strong organisational, computer and project management skills.
  • Ability to work in a highly productive environment with time pressures while managing multiple tasks.

To support culturally appropriate service delivery for young First Nations Peoples, headspace is looking to appoint two Our Way Our Say Facilitators who can provide culturally appropriate support to provide gender specific care.
