Title: Development & Outreach Manager

Location: Lummi Island Heritage Trust, 3650 Sunrise Rd / Lummi Island, WA 98262

Position Type: 16 to 24 hrs/week, negotiable

Salary: $25/hr, simple IRA with employer match of 3%

Overview: Lummi Island Heritage Trust (LIHT) is an accredited, community-based nonprofit land trust with the mission to create a legacy of abundant open space, native habitat, and natural resources on Lummi Island by inspiring people to protect and care for the island’s farms, forests, wetlands, and shorelines forever. LIHT is guided by science and integrity in preserving, nurturing, and restoring the island’s natural systems, honoring its cultural heritage, and cultivating community resilience.

Position Summary: The Development & Outreach Manager is a creative, organized, flexible and enthusiastic team player who drives LIHT’s community engagement and supports fundraising strategy and implementation. This position reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with other staff in a fast-paced, collegial and community-centric environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Spearhead planning and execution of dynamic outreach and fundraising events and programs, managing logistics and directing staff and volunteer engagement (Forest Fest, LIHT Annual Meeting, Nature Explorers, Speaker Series)
• Work with Executive Director and relevant staff and board members to develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategy with a focus on donor acquisition and retention
• Manage direct fundraising appeals and campaigns including Giving Tuesday, end of year mail campaigns, membership drive, etc.
• Manage direct fundraising appeals, capital and other campaigns, and annual and planned giving programs
• Research funding sources and opportunities and assist with grant writing when appropriate
• Create digital and print content to support outreach and fundraising efforts (Annual Report, digital and print newsletters, fundraising campaigns)
• Work with community groups on- and off-island to build strong communal partnerships, to utilize LIHT preserves for environmental education, and to promote community participation in LIHT activities and events
• Produce creative and engaging content for the LIHT website and social media channels
• Greet, assist, and educate visitors to the Resource Center; answer and direct incoming calls
• Act as staff liaison for Board of Directors Community Outreach Committee, attending monthly meetings and coordinating with committee on community outreach projects and events as needed
• Support LIHT team with project assistance and other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

• Passion for conservation, land management, and/or environmental advocacy
• Work experience in a non-profit or conservation organization a plus
• Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Excellent computer skills, including high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
• Graphic design and visual communication skills including fluency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Canva
• Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, dedicated to driving projects from ideation to completion
• Self-starting and pro-active, strong problem-solving capabilities, and a demonstrated willingness to take initiative and learn on the go; ability to work well both independently and with a team
• Ability to maintain discretion and a high level of confidentiality with sensitive information
• Professional and personable, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders (including staff, board members, donors, volunteers, and community partners)
• Prior experience with non-profit fundraising, donor engagement and fundraising campaign strategy is desirable
• Working knowledge with donor management software (Little Green Light).
• Availability to work weekend and evening hours when necessary (events, committee meetings)
