The Smith Family is a children’s education charity that helps young Australians experiencing disadvantage to create better futures for themselves through harnessing the power of education.

We are seeking an experienced Parent Engagement Program Coordinator to join our family. Reporting to the Regional Programs Manager and working alongside dedicated, energised, and passionate team members, this role will focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents at public schools in Darwin and Palmerston to enable improved participation in education for students and their families.

You will also be working with, and through, school communities to build capacity and focus on early intervention and education transition points to ensure children and their families are encouraged to reach their full potential.

About our role

You will be responsible for:

  • Identifying the needs of families, schools, and communities to enable improved participation in education for students and their families.
  • Delivering and administering of appropriate Parent engagement programs to build the capacity of families to participate in education.
  • Collaborating with other Facilitators to plan program activities/sessions.
  • Regular reporting on program and target progress.
  • Developing a good understanding of the demographics and social data relating to the local community.

About you

As well as passion for community, you will bring the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and disadvantaged/marginalised groups and communities.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and coordinating programs/projects/events
  • Excellent organisational administrative skills (including computer literacy and time management)
  • Understanding of the education sector
  • Hold a current driver’s licence
  • Have or willing to obtain an employee Working With Children’s Check
  • Capability to manage and plan own work to achieve identified goals within time constraints
