The purpose of this position, which is assigned to Elephant Butte Lake State Park, is to assist visitors, enforce state laws, ensure the grounds and facilities are clean and safe for enjoyable recreation, and to help with the park interpretive education programing. This will include law enforcement duties to include regular patrol of campground facilities and waters in the area, ensuring compliance with Park rules/regulations and safety regulations. Operate various types of office equipment, power tools, vessels, and heavy equipment. This position is responsible for the general supervision and training of seasonal staff and park volunteers. The position will monitor park operations, while performing general functions of the park administration, fee enhancement, related law enforcement and fulfill managerial requirements when the Park Superintendents or Park Managers are unavailable.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Criminal Justice or Wildlife Management from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience in parks and recreation management, natural resources, biology, environmental sciences, forestry, criminal justice and/or wildlife management. Must be a certified NM peace officer.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of parks and recreation management with experience in Law Enforcement.
  • The candidate must be able to perform in stressful situations requiring prompt decision making with significant consequences.
  • The candidate must have excellent communication, organizational skills, and be able to provide outstanding customer service.
  • The ideal candidate will have extensive boating experience in various weather conditions.
