Parks & Rec Foreman/Arborist

The City of Oakwood is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Parks and Recreation Foreman/Arborist in the Public Works Department. This position manages daily field operations, supervises staff, ensures regulatory compliance, improves landscaped areas, and maintains City grounds and streets.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise employees and ground maintenance activities throughout the City, including but not limited to mowing, pruning, spraying, planting, and related landscaping functions.
• Assign work and evaluate the quality and performance of employees engaged in landscaping, park maintenance, and public grounds operations.
• Assist staff with maintenance and beautification efforts across the City’s facilities, parks and streets.
• Perform facility and playground inspections and assist with the oversight of athletic fields and courts, including tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts.
• Maintain and update the City’s tree inventory, including documentation of tree planting, removal, and maintenance activities.
• Provide guidance regarding horticultural concerns, including plant and tree diagnosis, lawn care, insect infestations, and fungal or viral diseases.
• Prepare, administer and coordinate with the Recreation Supervisor on the annual operating and capital budgets and capital improvement plans for the Parks and Recreation division.
• Review project specifications and analyze field conditions, design changes, and related reports to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
• Participate in a rotational on-call schedule after regular work hours to respond to emergencies, including but not limited to water main breaks, sewer backups, snow removal operations, street repairs, storm damage, and other utility system issues.
• Serve as a divisional representative on City-wide organizational committees as assigned.
• Comply with all job safety requirements and applicable safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
• Demonstrates regular and reliable attendance.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Degree in landscape, horticulture, forestry, floriculture, arboriculture, or a related field. or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Three (3) to four (4) years of experience in a supervisory role within landscaping, ground maintenance, or construction.
• Previous construction/landscaping experience, preferably in public infrastructure.
• Pesticide Applicator’s License.
• An Arborist license or the ability to obtain one within 24 months of employment.
• An Ohio Commercial Driver’s License or the ability to obtain within 12 months of employment.
• Valid Ohio Driver’s License.

COMPENSATION:

The current pay range is $95,000 – $115,929 annually, depending on qualifications and experience, plus an excellent benefits package including, but not limited to, health and dental insurance, vision coverage, life insurance, paid leave, and enrollment in the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System (OPERS) pension program.
