Position Summary
This is a renewable position contingent upon grant funding. Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Sponsored Programs and with the sponsorship of the NM Coalition for Literacy Grant.
Part-time literacy tutors will work one-on-one with individuals seeking to improve their reading, writing, and/or digital literacy skills. Tutors will be trained to assess student needs, assist students in setting personal and educational goals, provide literacy instruction, and monitor student progress.
Duties & Responsibilities

Provide tutoring services to adults working to improve their reading, writing, and digital literacy.

Assess individuals’ literacy skills and needs utilizing formal and informal evaluation tools and techniques.

Assist students in setting and obtaining educational and personal goals regarding literacy.

Monitor student time and progress and submit weekly attendance and performance reports to program director.

Become familiar with the texts, workbooks, software, and other resources available for use in literacy tutoring sessions.

Utilize a variety of instructional methods and tools to help individuals improve their reading, writing, and digital literacy skills.

Maintain student confidentiality and a professional tutoring environment.

Attend required literacy tutor trainings and meetings.

Promote additional adult education resources and workforce training opportunities to individuals with additional education and vocational goals.

Be a positive role model for students, encouraging them to continue pursuing educational and personal goals.

Partner with college staff and library personnel to identify and use safe, public locations for tutoring sessions.
Minimum Qualifications:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires frequent and continuous sitting/moving about, continuous use of fine motor skills.
SCHEDULE DETAILS:
Part-time tutoring hours may vary depending on student needs. Position will work between 5-15 hours per week.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma required.

Ability to use Microsoft and Google office products.

Must be patient, friendly, approachable, and caring.

Must be willing to complete literacy training and learn instructional strategies and skills to employ them with students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Literacy endorsement preferred.

Experience in tutoring or teaching preferred.
-
Experience in adult education, literacy, or English as a Second Language instruction is highly desirable.
