Overview

Participatory Research Postdoctoral Research Assistant

From 2024-2026, a new Queen Mary project on peer research and young people aims to generate toolkits and resources for academics to recruit, train and meaningfully collaborate with young researchers and their intermediaries (such as teachers), in partnership with the Centre for Childhood Studies.

Working with partners in the creative and cultural sectors, the aim of this participatory research project is to develop innovative models and methodologies for participatory research with young people aged 11-19 and their intermediaries, through the framework of creative methods and approaches.

The models and methodologies developed in the toolkits will be achieved through a collaborative process involving young people, youth workers, teachers and academics. The Participatory Research Postdoctoral Research Assistant will be at the heart of enabling this co-design process, and then authoring the toolkits which result from it.

Centre for Arts, Culture and Creative Collaboration

The Queen Mary Centre for Arts, Culture and Creative Collaboration (AC&C) is a centrally-located team which delivers university strategic priorities through its partnerships and networks with the creative and cultural sectors. We enable Queen Mary researchers across the university to achieve impact through interdisciplinary collaborations with the sector. We provide knowledge exchange and skills development opportunities to staff and students. And we support Queen Mary’s Civic University Agreement priorities by delivering the priority area, A Cultural Hub for East London.

About Queen Mary

At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.

Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.

We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.

Benefits

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.

Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
