Partnership Analyst – P2

Background

The UNV Regional Offices provide oversight and strategic guidance to the UNV Field Units in their respective geographical assignments and are mainly accountable for the placement of UN Volunteers mobilized for UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes focused on peace, development, and humanitarian needs. Furthermore, the Regional Offices represent, and strategically position, UNV and bring UNV’s services and solutions closer to its partners from governments, UN entities, civil society and private sector. The Regional Offices also support the promotion of volunteerism as per the UNV Strategic Framework.

Reporting to the Regional Portfolio Manager and being part of the Regional Office partnership team, the Partnerships Analyst is responsible for managing, strengthening and expanding volunteers’ mobilization and partnership building initiatives mainly with UN agencies and Governments, and provides partners’ coordination support to the UNV Field Units and non-Field Units countries in the region.

In this role, the Partnerships Analyst will support the Regional Office in the identification of UN Volunteers’ mobilization opportunities and resource mobilization, including the identification of potential Full Funding and Special Voluntary Fund (SVF) partners. She/he will initiate the development of special programme initiatives and coordinate their implementations, ensure UNV engagement with UN entities at the Regional level and in non-Field Unit countries through advocacy and partnership building, and support their engagements at the country level in coordination with the UNV Field Units. She/he will collaborate with portfolio specialists, communication team, Online Volunteers’ Associate, RBM and Talent Acquisition staffs to strengthen UNV Programme collaboration with key stakeholders and throughout the UN System.

UNV adopts a portfolio approach to accommodate changing business needs and leverage linkages across interventions to achieve its strategic goals. Therefore, UNV personnel are expected to work across units, functions, teams, and projects in multidisciplinary teams in order to enhance and enable horizontal collaboration.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Support to Regional Office in the management of UN partners’ relations

• Maintain effective and quality UN partners relations management through active engagement in meetings, events, missions, and consultations;
• Coordinate and organize strategic dialogues with partners to expand and diversify collaborative engagements and increase volunteer mobilization, including through special programme initiatives and support in developing the special voluntary fund proposals within initiatives in the region; 
• Coordinate and consult with different counterparts within the UNV Programme particularly the Portfolio Specialists, communication team, Online Volunteers and RBM staff, Office of New York, the Regional Offices, on opportunities for volunteer mobilization, providing proposals and coordinating solutions and overcome challenges;
• Scan the potential for expanding collaboration with partners and any other relevant new potential partner under the respective portfolio to foster further interest in and commitment with UNV’s global agenda; 
• Ensure high quality and timely reporting on the Regional Office partnerships action plan with attention to accuracy and key recommendations and lessons learned to maintain and enhance partnerships with UN agencies
• Monitor the implementation of special programme initiatives and the use of SVF and ensure that it effectively contributes to the UNV Strategic Framework

2. Contribute to the outreach and partner engagement

• Support the organization of strategic dialogues, partner engagements, mainly UN partners, and high-level outreach and advocacy events, including agenda setting and preparation of briefs;
• Identify and recommend opportunities for UNV participation in key forums of corporate significance, especially at the regional level, and support UNV’s participation;  
• Support and contribute to the organization of corporate partnership engagement activities and events, particularly in relation to special programme initiatives; 
• Support the identification potential resource mobilization partners under the guidance of ERCS and provide information on the use of Special Voluntary Fund and implementation of the Full Funding programme as required.
• Identify solutions to resource mobilization challenges in the region. Assist the Regional Office in the preparation of meetings with UN, missions to countries, including agenda, briefing notes on UN partners, coordination of follow up, etc.

3. Collaboration with other UN Regional Office units in strengthening partnerships

• In collaboration with the Communications team, conceptualize and develop targeted partner communications materials and marketing tools to enable effective partnership-building, resource and volunteers’ mobilization.
• Support in negotiation processes and conclusion of agreements with UN partners, and resource mobilization under ERCS guidance with key external stakeholders including Government, private sector, foundations, academia, and other civil society organisations, etc.;
• In close cooperation with the regional Talent Acquisition Analyst, support the roll out of talent acquisitions actions at the Regional level and in non-Field Unit countries, as needed per the regional Talent Acquisition plan;
• In close cooperation with the RBM Analyst, ensure efficient use of data on volunteer mobilization to enhance partnerships with UN agencies.
• Support data, evidence, best practices collection on UNV programme and UNV Strategic Framework outcomes for use in partnership meetings and external presentations.

4. Support to Regional Office in the management of partnership knowledge and intelligence

• Ensure partnership tracking tools for the Regional Office are updated with the relevant information on SharePoint on and salesforce;
• Collaborate closely with New York Office in getting updates on global trends analysis and produce a partner intelligence mapping for the region and other intelligence resources, and use the resources as relevant in setting up partnership for non-Field Unit, provide advice to UNV Field Units on partnership opportunities;
• Develop two-pagers, guidance notes, tools, templates, best practices, lessons learned, brochures and ensure consistent use of these tools by internal clients;
• Regularly identify partnerships and volunteers’ mobilization opportunities from regular dialogues with partners and through active engagement and exchange with UNV’s relevant units and cooperation entities to enable expansion of collaborative engagements and advise internal clients;
• Support the maintenance of UNV’s partnership community of practice at Regional and field levels and provide input to corporate exercises.

The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

• Advanced University degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Social Sciences, Political Science, Public or Business Administration, or related fields is required, or
• A first level University Degree (bachelor’s degree) in the areas mentioned above in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience will be given a due consideration in lieu of the Advanced University degree.

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years (with master’s degree) or 4 years (with bachelor’s degree) of relevant experience in partnership building/management and/or volunteer mobilization.
• At least 1 year experience at an international organization is required, preferably in partnerships and resource mobilization.
• Work experience in multi-stakeholder partnership building/management dealing with public and/or private sectors, with international or intergovernmental organizations is required.
• Field experience in domains related to volunteering is an asset. 
• Proven track record of good knowledge of the region of West and Central Africa is an asset.
• Proven track record of good understanding of UN planning language is an asset.
• Fluency in English and French is required.
• Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
