Duties and Responsibilities
The UN in China has entered a new phase of collaboration with China, featured by the endorsement of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2026-2030).
The new Cooperation Framework is comprised of three pillars:
- High-quality people-centered development and shared prosperity;
- Climate action and environmental sustainability;
- Partnerships to accelerate sustainable development.
In accordance with the CPC Central Committee’s recommendations for formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for China’s economic and social development released in late October 2025, China’s focus on “high-quality” development is substantially aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the next five-year period (2026-2030), China’s push towards high-quality development, transition towards green and low-carbon development, as well as ensuring its full alignment with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will likely remain the country’s top priority, while China’s development success is essential for global achievement of the SDGs.
Under the overall supervision of the UN Partnership and Financing Officer, the Partnership Intern is expected to contribute to the development of the public-private partnerships relevant for the implementation of the next Cooperation Framework.
The responsibilities of the Partnership Intern include:
- Support the organization of RCO’s major events, including logistics support and drafting briefing documents and speeches, etc.
- Support the compilation and preparation of briefing and presentation materials, background information and documentation on China’s key policies and developments.
- Support the organization and follow-up of the inter-agency and high-level meetings or events attended by the RC or RCO staff members.
- Support to incoming high-level UN delegations, including providing both logistics and substantive support.
The RCO China is looking for a motivated Partnership Intern to join the RCO China office. The duration of this internship is six months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Working days will be 5 days a week and 8 hours per day.
Under the overall supervision of the UN Partnership and Financing Officer, the Partnership Intern is expected to contribute to the development of the public-private partnerships relevant for the implementation of the next Cooperation Framework.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
- (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Applicants must be in, or have completed, the final academic year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), be currently enrolled in Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
